Happy New Year To ALL!!!

I currently use 1shoppingcart.com as my shopping cart, but they have raised their fees again.

I would like to get some feedback on which would be a good cart to go with. My site is on a Windows server.

I have looked at the following:

www.candypress.com - have heard good things about this one
www.ecommercetemplates.com - have read on here this is a good one
www.pagedowntech.com - don't know a thing about this one

Any comments or suggestions would be welcomed.

If you're interested in hosted carts I've found these folks and their cart to be tops in responding to my needs.
www.securenetshop.com. I think they have/had a 50 product free version also.

I haven't installed live yet but have been hacking candypress. It is well written and is quite robust. I give it a thumbs up! I've only looked on the surface of www.ecommercetemplates.com so I can't say anything really about it. And, I've not looked at the other at all.

I LOVE CP!! I have a few templates and mods at my website for it (http://www.savvymedias.com/store) and use it on several of my sites if you check out my portfolio. I will never buy a different shopping cart again.

There is one place that sells certs for around $10/year, can't remember it off hand though.

I would check with your host first as they sometimes do certificates cheap for their clients.

Watch out for the really cheap offers though as some of them are chained SSL and throw a warning box every time a visitor hits the page. They're usually only recommended for very low volume sales as well.

GoDaddy. $29.95/year and it is setup within a few hours -- their basic SSL. There is another one that is more indepth.

Last year I made the switch to Ecommerce Templates and will never go back. Found out about them from a posting by Katharine here at OutFront.

Ecommerce Templates has unbelievable prices and an excellent support community. Great fast turn around time on problem solving, and a really neat very customizable product. Love it!

VPASP is the one for me.

Easy to use, loads of features, cost effective, excellent technical support for those what if? or can it do...? questions.

I am not real familiar with most but I really like that I own the cart outright after I bought it.

I can put it anywhere I like and am not tied to anyones server.
The forum is full of sharp guys and the even the top developer Nick helps out. I think he reviews all the posts to verify the quality of the info.

is a one time fee of $179 and I think the cart can be configured
just about any way you coulfd think of.
(Someone has just developed an SEO add on for it as well)
(No I don't work for them!)

Hi,
I bought Sales Cart Pro from ComCity.com. I have used it for several years and love it. My orders come right to my server rather than sit on someone else's server which is very important to me from a security standpoint.

It does everything from config taxes and shipping to dynamic or static pages. My site is set up with all static pages for SEO purposes. The price is around $250. but then it is yours for as many sites as you want it for. And the 30 day tech support is super. The techs are par excellent.

The carts are built for either FP or DW and you buy according to what you use. They also have one for Linux which I have used also. I can even run auctions with the NT version.

I use InstantSSL for the cert and am very happy with them. They have different cert pricing starting at 49.95. I use the 69.95 one and once you have used them the renewals happen in about 10 minutes without all the hoopla usually associated with getting a cert.

I have a "developer version" of the Comersus cart and i've used os-commerce cart (php), and also i've used "storefront".

Regardless of how much i've got invested in other scripts, the absolute hands down winner is CandyPress. It's a killer cart and real easy to skin. It's very FrontPage friendly and even a novice can migrate the look of the site into it.

I thought CandyPress was a little more polished, it's easier to work with in frontpage with the access database, easier to skin, doesn't even require marking a folder as "writable", you can just log onto the server during an image or file upload, etc..

A little bit "tighter". </IMHO>

It isn't a necessity if you can make something yourself; however, there are several add ons that are ESENTIAL to me -- the affiliate program Mod ROCKS -- I have customers right now bringing in over $10k a week with the basic $49 cart admin though.

D/L the front end and play if you haven't already.

I have used the SalesCartPro for 3 years and the SalesCartX for Linux for 4 years. I just changed host's last week and didn't miss a beat. The thing I like best is the online order retrieval and not having it sit on anyone else's server as a protection to my customers. I am definitely a fan.

Ah, well you have used it for about as long as I have then. Do you remember Site Steve? He wrote a couple mods for it, I haven't seen him around in awhile.

Mike over at SC still doesn't have any plans for getting SC X up 2 date with the SC Pro 5.0 :/

I know that SC X would sell so fast if it had the same features of SC Pro 5.0.

One of their sales reps left a few months back, Suzanne Palmini (sp?), she was such a great person. I'm sure if you have been with SC for awhile, you would remember her.

Yes, I remember Suzanne. She left to have another baby. I was there when she had her first one. She was great. I love all of their techs. They are a whole different breed than what you usually run into.

I don't know why they have let SCX go by the wayside to a degree. Now that Linux has become so much wider accepted, I agree they would sell more, but the interest in it seems to have waned for them.

I sent a few e-mails to Mike B, but he didn't seem like they were going to upgrade it anytime soon, which is a shame.

I would pay well over $500 for SC Pro for linux.

I don't think it'd be very rewarding without the admin tools. ;-)
luckily it is/was only $50 for the full package.

I have installed CandyPress on at least 50 websites. I made some mods for it for SEO and it works like a charm. I used it at lingerieatlarge.com, babybejeweled.com, babysunprotection.com, savvymedias.com/store among others.

The ONLY caveats that I see :


  • Can't control inventory by options (e.g., shirt colors)
  • If not using AIM (advanced integration) for Authorizenet, placing orders can be confusing
  • Have to buy a mod to export to accounting software


On the upswing, people have made affordable mods for everything from World Ship (UPS) to Froogle feeds as well as store templates. Most of them are free, the code is easily modified and the support forums (user to user and developer to user) are great.

If I recall, there was a site, a web wiz bulletin board, where users could put up mods. It was called cpcode.com but seems to have vanished.

Check out this:
Comodo Group I've used them for a few years and it's a unique service; you put in a minimum of $200 and you get a package of ssl and related goodies completely free, as you sell SSL certs to your clients they draw down on your funds.

It's worked out well for me and i haven't paid for my own certificate since. ;-)
