Copying works, how to publish? - 1/2/2005 22:10:57
Hi guys, this is my file server :):
Windows Xp SP1
128Mb RAM

and my laptop in which I create the page :):
FrontPage 2003

I installed IIS 5.1 with the FTP and FrontPage extensions. I created 2 subwebs and I shared the folder across the lan so that I could "publish" (I learned that I was actually copying files :)) the files from FrontPage.

When I try to publish, it gives the error that (for example) "\\Server\wwwroot\Photoman" is located in a server based web. To gain access use the url http:// instead corresponding to the server. :)

So, the question is, how do I publish, because when I copy, I have to wait until it copies "all the files" :)
Am I missing any configuration on the IIS services?
Is not that the web page doesn't work, is just that is really annyoing having to wait until the copy is done :)

Hi Photoman and welcome to Outfront,

Open the site on your laptop and try File > Publish --> when the dialog box comes up type in http://photoman as the destination. Click on the Publishing Tab first and select Publish All Pages the first time. Click Publish.

For future updates set it to publish changed pages only.

Let us know how you get on.

Nearly there Mike, he'll want to publish to http://$computername$/photoman - as it's a sub wed on IIS, not the root web ;)

Replace $computername$ with the name of the computer or localhost
