Donkey -> Making FireFox Faster (1/4/2005 7:59:37)

This seems to work, but only if you are on Broadband.

Thomas Brunt -> RE: Making FireFox Faster (1/4/2005 10:23:34)

It made a big difference for me. Thanks!

ou812 -> RE: Making FireFox Faster (1/4/2005 10:45:19)

I'm not sure if I can tell if it is faster or not (I may be imagining it is faster - which is okay too). It seemed pretty fast already. At least it didn't make it slower. I have also tried suggestions from here: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=53650 which I couldn't tell either.

Rock on! =]

BobbyDouglas -> RE: Making FireFox Faster (1/4/2005 11:48:00)

Seems to run a tad slower on startup, but it can load a lot more pages at once, which is what I think makes the difference.

jaybee -> RE: Making FireFox Faster (1/4/2005 12:16:00)

Seems pretty good. [:D]

bobby -> RE: Making FireFox Faster (1/4/2005 12:21:00)

It's a lot faster here... can't wait to apply this at home...

<edit>
Sheesh!

this sucker is flying now! Made the changes at home, and for the first time since I upgraded my broadband it feels like I'm getting 4mbps [:D]

JSpilio -> RE: Making FireFox Faster (1/4/2005 21:56:08)

This is just incredible. I feel like I've upgraded from dial-up to broadband.. again. :)

Does anybody know if this works with the Mozilla Suite as well? I have several co-workers who use it at the office.

- It should. All you are doing is basically changing the amoutn of requests made. The usual is 4, but the max is set to 8 (default setting in mozilla).

Andy from Somerset -> RE: Making FireFox Faster (1/5/2005 2:52:42)

Nice one - thanks Eeyore [:)]

Donkey -> RE: Making FireFox Faster (1/5/2005 6:29:06)

I've just tried it on Moz 1.4, works fine - much faster.

I think the faster your broadband the more difference you notice, my cable at home is slower than the adsl we have in the office and in the increase in browser speed seems to be greater than it should be proportionally on the faster connection.

ou812 -> RE: Making FireFox Faster (1/5/2005 12:39:15)

Hmmm, I was thinking if your broadband was slower you would notice more, taking advantage of the different pipeline increases etc. My connection consistantly gets between 3.5-4.2mb, before and after change.

frankt -> RE: Making FireFox Faster (1/5/2005 17:46:11)

I messed up and set the following to type string: nglayout.initialpaint.delay

Where do I have to go to change it?[&o]

enrightd -> RE: Making FireFox Faster (1/5/2005 18:30:17)

Thanks Peter,

The fix works great.

I beleive you need to delete the line from you pref.js file, since you can't remove via about:config. It shoudl be located in your c:/docuements and settings/... directory. Make sure you edit this(with notepad or whatever) when the browser is NOT up and running. Then just create it again in about:config after bringing your browser back up.

tpslwebmaster -> RE: Making FireFox Faster (1/5/2005 21:03:16)

I changed the max requests to 8 and the speed that my pages are opening has at least tripled. Thanks!

I set mine at home to 48 last night...

Woooooooosh!

I don't know if it's that much faster than 20 - but it makes me feel cool.

Giomanach -> RE: Making FireFox Faster (1/6/2005 11:52:18)

Doesn't make much difference on a 633Mhz Processor...but you can see a difference from IE anyway...maha

Shirley -> RE: Making FireFox Faster (1/6/2005 17:56:34)

YIKES I have BIG problems with this!

I only set mine to 10 and I am getting locked out of the internet after only going to like 3 sites. I changed the values back to the original but I cannot find where to delete the nglayout.initialpaint.delay
It is NOT in the pref files.
Can anyone help me please.

Giomanach -> RE: Making FireFox Faster (1/6/2005 17:59:01)

Set the nglayout.initialpaint.delay to 0

I have mine set to that and it works fine

D

Shirley -> RE: Making FireFox Faster (1/6/2005 18:14:38)

I have that one set to 0 always have.
I just want to delete it

It was the max requests I only had set at 10 and still got locked out.
I think my ISP dislikes the pipelining[:@]

ou812 -> RE: Making FireFox Faster (1/6/2005 19:20:07)

Shirley, You may not be looking at the correct pref.js file. I had a few on my system. If is shows up in the about:config it really should be in your pref.js file, it reads from there when opening the browser. Do a search for pref.js file on your system just to make sure. Also, make sure the browser is closed down when you update it because FF writes/reads to it when closing/opening.

Shirley -> RE: Making FireFox Faster (1/6/2005 23:40:54)

I already did a search and looked at every pref file there is on my pc.
But just by changing the other stuff back to the default I can access the internet again. So I guess I am okay for now.

d a v e -> RE: Making FireFox Faster (1/7/2005 8:07:24)

d a v e -> RE: Making FireFox Faster (1/14/2005 8:14:53)

there was some bits about this here
http://www.neowin.net/comments.php?id=26672&category=main

and some tweaks here as well

anderskorte -> RE: Making FireFox Faster (2/20/2005 11:24:40)

Hey! You can download this extension. It provides easy and safe editing of both pipelining and max connections. After installation, it's accessed through the Tools menu (Tweak Network Settings).
