ppieter -> Permissions problem IIS6, Frontpage Active Directory (1/5/2005 10:04:51)

We're running IIS 6 in a Windows domain and an intranetsite running with frontpage Server extensions. Our problem is that our users cannot publish, unless we add them to the local admin group.
What happens is this:
Create a new webroot : "IntanetSites".
In inetmgr, install FPSE, administrators: resource-group "Webmasters" (from AD).
Using the Microsoft Sharepoint Administration interface:Create Subweb, admin account for subweb: "Intranet Testgroup" (from AD).
Members from this testgroup should now be able to publish, but no go.
Checking permissions shows a local usergroup (OWS_some-number) has been created and granted special right to the just created website on NTFS level.
Any ideas / known issues in a setup like this?
I've searched all kinds of websites but no result!

Greetings,

Pieter

Welcome To Outfront

For users of FP to successfully publish their web to your server, they must have Admin priviliges, otherwise, it will fail.

You can alter the specific permissions for the accounts via the IIS Snap in (Right click my computer>>Manage>>expand Services & Applications>>Expand IIS 6.0>>Expand Web Sites>>Right click on Web>>Permissions)

But unfortunatley, for them to publish to the domain, they need to have Admin priviliges

Hi D, thanks for your reaction.

Are you talking Frontpage permissions (like roles in SharePointAdministrator), or NTFS permissions?

By the way, our problem seems to have been solved. What we did is delete all webs, de-install all webservices (Coldfusion, php, Perl, IIS and some mssql clienttools), reinstall services and software and create some webs. Everything seems to be allright now.
I'm still very curious about using Frontpage roles combined with Active Directory. I was very surprised to see that frontpage actually creates local usergroups and grants permissions on resources to those groups just like that. i haven't found any information anywhere on this.

Greetings,

Pieter

Pieter

I was talking about the FP Permissions, as set by either Sharepoint Services or through the IIS Snap-in in the Management Console

When running a web server, it will act as though it is a separate machine - different set of permissions et al.

NTFS permissions are used for local/remote access, not FP access [;)]
