1st Timer -> Not sure I want to do this...but (1/5/2005 16:26:09)

I hate opening myself up to criticism, but I also love to learn...so here goes....

Please let me know what you think of my site. I am a self-taught novice, so am sure I did plenty wrong. But I figure it's better to hear it from you than to have a potential customer look at it and hate it.

needs work and you will get tons of constructive criticism but... for a first effort and based upon a "first impression" look, not bad at all..... good job.
you gif logo badly needs antialiasing..jagged letters!

Thanks, I noticed the jagged letters, but am not sure what to do. What is antialiasing?

dpf -> RE: Not sure I want to do this...but (1/5/2005 16:42:40)

search google...tons of stuff about it... here for example:
http://www.truetype.demon.co.uk/ttalias.htm
<edit>that link gets more technical than you need..what graphics software do you have? in most of them, when you do text, look carefully and there is a setting for antialiasing..play with a little and you will see.

Thanks again....

Not sure I want to admit this, but I created the logo in Powerpoint. I was just playing around at the time and came up with something I liked. I was going to re-create it in Corel, but haven't done so yet. I looked in Corel and they give a definintion of anti-aliasing but don't give any instructions.

Definition - The procedure of filtering an image to remove jagged edges from shapes. Anti-aliasing fills in the jagged pixels with intermediate colors (or shades of gray). This procedure smoothes transitions between colors.

Do you know if Corel will do it?

Hi 1st Timer. I am another new boy to the web world and self taught as well. Looked at your site and thought it was pretty good. Maybe too many words which confuse your sales message. I liked it though and was very impressed. I can't do technical critique but if you want more basic comment(am ex sales/marketing) I will have another look. Keep it up.

Hi Golfer,
I am absolutely open to comments regarding sales and marketing. I am an expert with the software, but new to sales. That's where I need the most help (in addition to website help).

Will have a good look at your site and get my gray cells working which are situated below my gray hairs. Would you appreciate an email or a response through this page?[:)]

unless it is something confidential or terribly esoteric, make comments here becasue..we all learn from each other..not just the person asking the question!!!!!!!

Thanks for that Dan. Gee. My first day at the forum and I am involved. Here we go then.
Who are you trying to reach and what is your target market. Is it industrial managers or does it include sales teams, shop staff etc. as well. Not clear. Always keep your message short and punchy. Use simple words so that your potential clients are not embarrassed by how clever you are. You have to be on their level of understanding and they may not be as bright as you. You have to try and relate through words that you are an approachable, professional company that will do a good job for them.
Your site has too many words and big ones as well. It confuses the story you are telling. Use lists rather that paragraphs. They are easier for the busy reader to scan through. Try to make your site very easy to navigate. Too many buttons and "click here's" confuse busy people. When they get lost they will return to the search engine. Guide/lead them through.
Give them an ability to act on impulse and put your telephone number on each page.
Ask yourself. Are you going to get a sale directly off your page? I assume from the product that you will not. Therefore treat the site as a lead getter. If you look at it this way you will not need to give prices or the paragraphs with it (seems complex). You can tell them at another time when contact has been established. A purchaser rarely purchases on price alone. If he trusts you and you have convinced them that you are the one to do business with, then price is less important. Just say that you are very competitive on prices.
Use bold lettering - easier to read at a pace. Is background plain enough to keep the message clear. Navigation buttons seem small. Hyperlink on powerpoint insert are tiny - can hardly read them. Pages do not adjust. Think % rather than pixel width may be better but I will leave that to the more experienced designers.
I hope this has been helpful. If not bin it.
If you want more help or comment - just give me a shout.

Thanks for the time taken to review the site and for the advise Golfer. As I attempt to continually improve the site, I will refer back to what you have written. Can you tell me what you mean by "Pages don't adjust"?

jaybee -> RE: Not sure I want to do this...but (1/6/2005 17:49:56)

He means that if you shrink the window or look at it in a larger resolution, (ie people with older monitors and 800x600) it doesn't resize.

If you design it fixed for 1024x768, then it goes way off the screen when looked at in 800x600. As he said, you need to specify your widths as %ages if you want to sort it out.

golfer -> RE: Not sure I want to do this...but (1/6/2005 17:49:59)

not a problem. Hope it was of some help.
