Please forgive the long story but I want to put all the necessary info out there...

I'm working on a website at work. A couple of weeks ago I decided to take it home and work on it there. Unknowingly, I copied the entire web directory onto a CD. I had problems working on it at home (couldn't open service.lck for writing) and found the solution on the Outfront archives: I unchecked "Read Only" on the file, promised myself I'd publish to a CD the next time, and was fine.

Still unsure of what I was doung, though, I came back to work the next day and copied the directory back onto my work machine, unchecked the "Read Only" switch and went on my way.

Now, when I try to publish to my server I get another error: unable to write to D:\whatever\whatever\_vti_pvt\service.cnf. I searched the Outfront archives again and see a message about this file but it seems to be referring to the file on the server side; this is referring to the file on my local machine.

When I look in the stated directory on my machine, this file does not even exist. I am able to publish my web, but I think it can't tell very well which files are new because it's publishing a lot more files than just the ones I've recently changed.

I tried to have my FrontPage extensions reinstalled on my server. (Actually, I had them removed, and then installed again.) Then, when I posted my web pages, I asked it to completely overwrite instead of just posting changed pages. Unfortunately, I still get this error.

Since the error is pointing at a file on my machine, should I try reinstalling Frontpage on my machine?

FP doesn't like "copying, uploading, downloading, importing, etc." always publish when moving a site.

Thanks for reading through the story. Yes, I'm ashamed to say that I _copied_ my web files back on my machine.

Any thoughts on how to address the error I'm now getting?
