email on localhost - help! - 1/9/2005 9:18:55
I have one major issue left on my site before going live, which is sending emails. I have various pages which I want to send email to various addresses, but need to test it all before going live (I can't afford to go live and then spend ages figuring out how to get the email stuff to work). So... How do I set up the localhost server to send email? I've been looking through all the posts on this forum and know I need to install IIS (done - I have IIS 5.1) and I know I need Server Extensions installed (done) but that's as far as I've got. I'm using XP Pro and FP2000. A step by step newbee's guide would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

If you already have a host why not just upload all the files to a new folder and test it from there.

Thanks for the reply Eric but you'll have to bear with me - totally new to this... I'm not sure what you mean. I have published to the localhost using IIS 5.1 but that's not allowing me to send email. Where do i go from there? Thanks, kt

Kt What Eric means is, why don't you upload it to the host server, rather than relying on your local machine? But, to setup IIS for email via FrontPage forms you will need to do the following: 1) Right Click On My Computer 2) Click On Manage You should then get the Computer Management Console 3) Expand the Internet Information Services tree 4) Expand the Web Sites Tree 5) Right Click On Default Web Site This will bring up the web properties 6) Select the Server Extensions Tab You are now on the FP Extensions panel, you will see it's split into three sections, you want to be in the middle section 7) Click on Settings in the middle section You should now see the follwing: 8) In the Web Server's Mail Address box, enter the main email address for the domain used 9) In the Contact Address box, enter the email address that the Forms are to use to send emails 10) In the SMTP Mail Server box, enter the SMTP address of the mail server. You can leave the encoding types alone if it is just for testing. 11) Click on OK 12) Click OK again That, in theory, should be it all done I hope that is of some use to you Dan
