Northernwytch -> Start Menu Taskbar in XP (1/10/2005 15:42:05)

Hello, does anyone know how to move the taskbar from vertical right of my screen to bottom horizontal, someone at work moved it and I have tried dragging it back, but that doesn't work. Can someone tell me please.

Regards
Northernwytch
PS; If you don't, I'll put a spell on you !!

Start > Control Panel > Task Bar and Start Menu > Uncheck the "Lock taskbar" option.

Then you can move it.

Oh no! Not a spell!!

Right click on Tasbar>>Lock Taskbar

Then move it

PS: This should be in Computer Hardware & Software Issues

I have on my start up menu [XP Pro] a red colored cirle with a bar through it on a grey square. cannot click on it, doesn't show what it is when you mouse over it, nothing. I cannot I.D. it from control panel nor anything I have on my P.C. Any Clues?

After doubly ensuring that it is not currently locked, perhaps try this advice I found in another forum:

quote:

You just have to keep playing with it. Continue to try to move it from every possible point on the bar; from left to right or top to bottom, whatever the case may be. Click and hold one small section at a time and eventually, you will grab hold of exactly the right spot to make the move.

Good luck.

Sounds like a piece of software has stopped running for some reason. Have you tried right-clicking on it to see if anything appears?

As Kitka has quoted from an external source, it's a case of play with it till you get it right, but for some reason, it help if you do it from the top and outer edge of the taskbar.

Is it at all possible to see a screenshot of this? Thanks

yes, tried everything and all. looks exactly like a pop-up blocker, except that the bar in the circle starts from bottom left upwards. I checked all my program icons and cannot see one like it! Thanks Jaybee

Do a CTRL-Alt-Del and see if anything in the running apps or processes looks odd.
