Matt -> HELP! My website is looking weird! :( (3/26/2001 22:51:00)

I've built a template home page for a web site and posted it here ->
http://128.121.113.94/index.htm

The links don't work, etc. I'm working on the website's "look & feel"
now. I'm using include pages for the left and right nav bars, and the
footer.

Question 1:

You'll notice in BOTH Netscape and IE that there's a LOT of room
(white space) at the bottom of the web page. How do I get rid
of the white space??? Aahh!!!

Question 2:

What the heck happened to my bottom table/include page/footer?
It's over to the left in IE and there's white space on the
right. How do I fix this so it spans the whole page and has
NO WHITE SPACE?

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Matt Hockin

I did not see any unusual white space when I viewed it with NN. However, I did see this code way down by your footer info.

<td width="769" valign="top" bgcolor="#FFFFFF" colspan="5" height="*"><!--webbot
bot="Include" u-include="_include/footer.htm" tag="BODY" startspan -->

Are you planning to eliminate any one using 640x480 screen resolution? 769 will make them have to scroll over horizontally and most viewers do not wish to do this. May I suggest using a table size of 100% instead?

Excellent.

I just fixed that and the bottom footer
is corrected.

Thanks for the tip Gene.

This webpage looks good now in NN -- just a
little white space under the left nav. When
I view it in IE -- there's A LOT of white
space under BOTH the left & right navs.

Any ideas?

Thanks Gene,

i cant see this white space myself.

i reckon you will be ok designing for a 800x600 display as this is the majority, closely followed by 1024x768. 640x480 is hardly around now.

try browsermaster from http://www.applythis.com/ it lets to test your site in different browsers and resolutions on-the-fly
