FP options that don't work in N Navigator - 3/15/2001 20:26:00
Can anyone tell me which options that come with FP2000 ( like Marquees, Borders & Shading and Insert HTML etc ) that are not visible when viewed in Netscape.
If anyone is unsure of what I mean, and they can, check out http://www.bexleylink.co.uk and view it in IE followed by NN. You'll soon see.
It's driving me mad!

Any advice welcome,

Neil

Marquees don't work in NN, best thing to do is set Frontpage to be compatable with IE and NN.

Stay away from FPs abosolute positioning as well. It's not pretty in NS.

Marr,
when you say 'absolute positioning' do you mean the option of reducing line spacing? And nobody has yet replied saying 'Of course the 'Insert HTML' option works in NN.
Thanks,
Neil

Neil,
I ran into the same problem. Giving a banner an absolute position made it look great in IE but covered over half the page in Netscape. It seems Netscape doesn't understand the way IE does some things. What I want to know is, is there code that would make it understand?

Okay, so absolute positioning does not work when viewed in netscape. BUT WHAT ARE WE SUPPOSED TO DO INSTEAD. This whole netscape thing is giving me a headache. I'ts like Microsoft have made this software and said Go forth and build websites my children. Oh, but p.s. dont expect any of the more interesting items of your carefully designed site to work in anything other than IE. That said we hope you enjoy using our software.
I am beginning to think it's a marketing ploy.
Anyway, ranting over, I would like to know how I go about making a weather banner viewable in NN.
To insert the banner I copied the HTML supplied and went to >Insert >Advanced >HTML and pasted the HTML. Is there another way to do this so that it IS veiwable in NN?
Someone please help me.

Neil

If the code is correct - it doesn't matter how you insert it - in HTML view or insert/advanced/HTML.

You will quickly learn that no program can do or be all you need. Web Design and development far extends what you can do with an html editor. You have to have knowledge about the profession as a whole - including browser compatibility and some working knowledge of HTML and not simply knowledge of the programs themselves. The programs are a tool to help you put that knowledge to work. (Yes - the simplicity is overstated in their marketing. )

Instead of absolute positioning you use Tables - another slight learning curve but a must regardless. Professional designers use tables for complex layout and that's where you need to concentrate.

Expect more from yourself and less from your html program and happier you will be.
