H E L P ! ! with MS Outlook 2003 email account setup! - 1/14/2005 11:08:09
I am trying to set up POP email accounts through MS Outlook 2003 so that I can set up folders for my personal email as well as create folders for my various business email accounts. Can Outlook do this??? As it stands now, I had to create the files then set up rules to force it to deliver into the appropriate inbox. I still don't feel like it's set up properly. When I write an email, they all are from my primary account instead of each individual account. I know I read something about setting up Microsoft server something. I know enough to get myself into trouble, but not enough to get myself out!! I tried all the online tutorials and they show how to color code, etc., etc., but not the basic functions of setting up business emails. I know there are several types of email such as POP, IMAP, etc., but I don't know which is best. I definately want to be sure to leave a copy of all emails on the server as well as Outlook. Please help!!

I use 2K3 myself. Have you tried setting up separate profiles? That would assure all emails answered (when in the proper profile) would be "sent " from the proper account. You can setup multiple profiles to use the same .PST file; you just have to be sure of which profile you're logged in under. Or it may be just easier to leave them as separate. Outlook will allow you to check mail for many different accounts, but as to sorting them, etc.; you'll have to use the rules AFAIK. That any help?

As rdouglas mentioned, you have to select the email account for outgoing mail - Outlook uses a primary emal address and this is always "up" by default. You can also download each email account separately or, again by default, the Send/Receive function will deliver all mail from all servers at the same time. I haven't tried to establish "rules" to deliver mail for different email addresses to different folders within Outlook Personal Folders, so I can't help you there. I sort, delete and save all my email to appropriate folders as read. To setup one or more additional email accounts, follow these steps: >>Tools >> E-mail Accounts >>Add a new e-mail account , then complete the Your Name, E-mail Address, User Name, Password, Incoming mail server (POP3) and Outgoing mail server (SMTP) fields then (while online) >>Test Account Settings. The POP3 and SMTP settings should be the same as the primary account you are using. The POP3 field will be different if you are routing mail through a host (not ISP) server.
