Date modified as an included item - 3/29/2001 20:50:00
I posted this a month ago but didn't get a definitive answer. I've been experimenting but so far without success. Here is the original post:

We have to show the Date Last Modified on a our Standard Operating Procedures. I'd like to be able to do this inside a piece of boilerplate text that can be inserted from an external file.
For example, the echo directive works very well but it must be in the page. When I use an include with the echo directive embedded in the included item, it returns the Date Last Modified of the included item, not the page in which it is included.

Is there a way to have an included item check the Date Last Modified of the page into which it included?

Cheers

I don't see the need to have the date modified occur as an include.

Just do Insert > Date Time on each page.

It's not something you will have to edit ever again on each page. There's really no utility to placing it within an include.

If your host supports server side includes use: <!--#echo var="LAST_MODIFIED" -->

Thomas, Gil

Thank you both for your replies - I asked for a definitive answer and got it.

The reason I wanted to have the Date Last Modified as part of an included item is to be able to vary the surrounding text message. Over time, users no longer read something they see regularly, so we change our boilerplate messages to improve communication.

Cheers
Bill
