SEO pricing - 1/15/2005 21:52:20
I need help guys! I have a chance at a REALLY BIG client with maybe a $1M development budget. I have been asked to submit a proposal on the SEO and SEM. The problem is, this will be by far the biggest project for me and I am not sure what % of the total budget is normally (if there is such a thing) set aside for SEO&M?
How do I price this baby?????? This is also a ground floor opportunity that I don't want to get away.

Hourly charge times number of hours of worked?
Don't take advantage of their huge budget either, be fair.

By the nature of your question and the size of the potential client - it sounds as if you will have to outsource the SEM/SEO. You should contact a few reputable people/companies and get a detailed quote. Then add on any profit you want.

Thanks for responding.
No I won't take advantage of their large budget. But was curious as to how much you'all felt might be allocated for SEO in a budget this large so I have a base line to consider.
Hourly rate X # hours, works of course, but this site could go to many hundreds of pages ( my contact told me over a thousand!).
So being that I do organic work on every page, my mind begins to boggle at the enormity, (enormousness?) of the task. Tha's why I asked for help.

It all comes down to what you plan on doing... Saying they have $1m in their budget could mean they plan to spend $1m on Adwords, or something like that, and maybe give you $100 for setting it up..
It all depends what you do and how long it takes you to do it.

#1. carefully consider Mojo's point. to be truthful, your question suggests you arent that experienced in this area.. dont want to take or bid the job and show inexperience. better to sub, submit pro job and learn from your sub.
2. dont confuse the size of the quote:
$1M development budget with what they are willing to spend to promote it. no natural correlation. Ive seen companies spend huge to develop site and be scroogish on promoting and ive seen companies with a $1000 site who spent 10x that to promote.
3. regarding your quoote above, have u studied their pages to know how much "organic work" they need?
