HELP w/ New Puter Import - 1/16/2005 16:51:26
Hello,
Just upgraded to a new computer. Old computer had Win 98. New one has xp. Tried to import web from server. The complete web will not download into my computer. Also, when I upload I lose the shared borders with all my links. What the heck is going on??

Also: Old computer died just after uploading old file to server for quick fix. I need to update and cant seem to get the new box to work right. any ideas?

I am desperate!!!!
PLEASE email me at Michael@charminglylindas.com. Thanx.

charmlinda,

You're off track- import won't work (as you found out). Do this:

(1) In FrontPage, open your server files by clicking File >>Open, (2) Browse to “My Network Places” (3) In the File Name field type the web site address, for example: http://www.charminglylindas.com , (3) Enter your username & password when prompted, (4) Once the server files open in FrontPage click File >> Publish Site and, (5) For the address to publish, enter a destination on your hard drive, for example: C:\My Documents\My Webs\mysite. (Note: if the location doesn’t exist on your hard drive, you will be prompted to “Create? Yes or No”. Answer Yes.) Last item: Republish to Host Overwriting all Files - Site will then be “In Step”

As I read your post, I note the term "uploading" twice. If you haven't published using the FrontPage publish command (File >>Publish Site) you may have corrupted the shared borders. If so, the remote to local "publish down" instructions above will render files no better than on the remote server.

Hope this helps.
