agp/pci - 1/17/2005 1:23:25
I have an old machine (HP 8660c running Win 98SE) and I don't believe it has an AGP slot. I there any kind of adapter for a PCI slot that would enable me to use an AGP card? I will, in the near future, buy a new machine (or build one!) but I would still like to know if it's possible to adapt PCI slots for AGP cards. I mistakenly bought an AGP card ($80) and if it somehow can work with my current machine, I'd like to do that and then buy a better card for my new machine. Tony

Tony, I am no hardware expert, but I am pretty sure there is no way for a PCI motherboard to use an AGP card. Usually you would want something like "pci to agp" but google turned up no results when I searched for that, so I think you are out of luck. What agp card did you buy? I might be looking for a cheap one <$100 for a new computer.

Thanks, guys. Posting my question was an act of pure optimism as I thought I was out of luck. Oh well, I'll just return it and get a PCI card. Mr. Bob: The card is a Diamond Stealth S85, Radeon 9250, 128 MB/Mo DDR. I got it at www.microcenter.com They have a bricks and mortar store near me so I went there and didn't order online. So I can't speak about their online reliability. Right now (as of yesterday anyway) all their graphics cards were 20% off. Tony
