What kind of loud is it? Just like loud fan noises, a bit louder than my old PC. quote:
Does it sound like the fan or hard drive? Fans mainly - I can only hear the HDD if I put my ear really close. I've read other people complaining about the fan which comes with the Prescott cpu though. In fact, I looked for an after-market silent one, before I even started building the computer. But the mobo makes things difficult cos there is very little room around the cpu and most silent models, like Zalman, are far too big. quote:
It could be that something isn't completely tight... loose screw on a fan housing could make a lot of racket... Highly unlikely. I think there are only 4 screws in the whole computer (besides the mobo ones, which are tight). The 4 are mounted in rubber grommets that hold the HDD to the removable tray. And the 120mm rear fan is held in place by silicon rubber isolation mounts. Part of the problem I think is the ANTEC logo which is punched into both sides of the case as holes. So that allows the sound to escape, plus it provides an avenue for a lot of dust to get into the case which doesn't impress me. The washable filter in front keeps most dust out from the normal airflow, so it seems odd to have provided extra entry points. If acoustic insulation is added, that naturally covers those holes, so maybe it is a good idea. Although I have seen those holes referred to as extra ventilation and I wouldn't like to reduce that.
