Guest -> correcting index.htm web name (4/2/2001 20:01:00)

Searching the web for help, I found
your great Outfront presentation. Hope
you can help a newbie.
FP2000 I have made what I hoped would
be my home page. Evidently when I saved
it the first time, I named it as follows.
horseracingedge.com/index.htm/horseracingedge.com/index.htm. I have been trying for
two weeks to rename it. The closest I have
found is instruction to go to Tools,
Web Settings and correct it. Only problem
is I cannot find out how to highlight the
Web Settings. It is slowly driving me
crazy Well maybe I already was. I then
tried starting over. It won't allow me to save anything with horseracingedge.com in it.
Says there is no access, or maybe password
protected.
Can anyone help? Thanks

Bruce

Bruce,
When you say you "saved it", do you mean you saved the index page or you saved the entire site as that? I went to the URL and it does not appear to be authored in FP2000. Perhaps this is just the hosts setup page?
Please be more specific with your question. I am unsure whether you are unable to rename the web, the individual page (index.htm) or the TITLE of the page.

I wish I could be more help, but I'm not sure I understand your problem. Please add more specifics and someone will probably be able to help ya out. Good luck Bruce.

The default home page needs to have a specific file name determined by the admistrator of the server the site is on.

If you create your site in FP by doing File > New > Web, FP will create a site with a true default home page. When you publish that web to another server, FP will check the server to see what the default home page needs to be named. It will then update the file name of your default home page and all links to it accordingly.

If you didn't start out this way then you can open the live site up the same way you open a local one. File > Open Web > type in http://www.ulr.com. You can then create a folder in this web. Then click on the new page icon on the FP tool bar while inside that folder. The filen name FP gives to that page is the correct default home page file name for your site.

You can the just rename your home page to match that. FP will update all the links to your home page accordingly.

More details. I don't know if I created
a web with FP when I made the pages. I
don't think I did. I uploaded them to
my server. The page that I want as my home page has an extension like index.html/then
a repeat of the url? I can't figure out
what it is. I could download the page and correct the name if I could figure out how.
In FP2000 any time I try to rename or create a new duplicate it tells me access is refused or it might be password protected.
I tried copying the page on a zip drive and
deleting all related files on my hard drive.
Then I opened FP, loaded the page from the
drive. Same thing. No access. I cannot
find out how to change everything after
horseracingedge.com to index.htm or html.
Under tools the manual says to go to Web
settings. I can't find any way to highlight
this selection.
So I am standing in FP quicksand and the
smile is fading. Thanks for any added info.

I did try to go to the server, open the page
and create a new one. It just kept returning
me to their under construction page.

Bruce
