Access db on an intranet site - 1/21/2005 11:01:21
Hi All,

We are having a problem with an Access db on an intranet site.

The issue is we are getting two “friendly” errors.
1. “This Website uses a data provider that maybe unsafe. If you trust the website, click OK, otherwise, click Cancel.”
2. This website is using your identity to access a data source. If you trust the website, click OK, otherwise, click Cancel.”

We know this happens because the db and the site are on different servers. However, when we put them on the same server we have a different issue. The db is currently on a Windows server, and accessed from a Sun server running Apache. Right now the link to the db is a UNC path, moving the db to the Sun server and changing the link to a web address causes an error that the file can’t be found.

How do we resolve the issues?

Mega Thanks

Don't know much about the Sun, but in IIS you can set up a Virtual Directory that'll take care of lots of issues when using UNC's. Is the Access DB drive/volumn mapped to a drive letter? That's probably where I'd start...

According to our IT guy,

"We can't use virtual directories in Apache, that's just an IIS thing. Also, we had to get away from mapped drives (the "T:\"links), it still gave the same warnings anyway. "

Any other ideas?

Thanks

I think you may be banging your head against the wall for that solution - any mix of access / windows / unix is not pretty.
If you dont have a windows web server, Id be looking at MySQL

No problems at all - but do start a new thread if you want more opinions :)
