Frontpage changing code. - 4/4/2001 20:42:00
Hi, we are using FP98 and have been using notepad to enter ASP VBScript. However, the pages within the FP web have been losing the VBScript and replacing it with:

<FrontPage="VBScript_bitmap">

This means absolutely nothing to us! This has been happening even when the ASP pages themselves have not been open for editing, but a .htm page within the same subweb has!

The ASP pages just stop working and offer up numerous errors.

We realise that FrontPage is known for being overly helpful by tidying things up, but this seems ridiculous when the pages are not even being edited. Any ideas?

To combat this we have input the ASP code into FrontPage itself rather than using Notepad. This seems to work - but this limits the number of platforms we can develop on ( numerous developers ).

Is there a way that we can get round this? Is this a changeable option within FP or are we stuck working around Microsoft's oversights

Hope you can help

Many Thanks, Ron Hook & Anna Cooper.

I must admit, I find it hard to believe?

Normally, if you have opened a file in notepad, FP98 wouldnt touch it.
Ive certainly never seen the bitmap turn up either? Are you trying to integrate it with a web bot perhaps? Is someone else opening it without your knowledge?

Another option is to use the "insert script" or "insert html"

FP treats that quite nicely too.

FP2000 is better, but also not perfect

Thanks for your reply Spooky - we also find it hard to believe!!!

The ASP pages are on a development web that very few people have access to. We have cheked with them all, and they have not been opening the said pages.

We are not integrating with a webbot.

Using "Insert Script/html" would probably work, and that is a very similar method to what we are using in order to make this work, however as stated before we are concerned about limiting the development tools we can use!

Has anybody had this happen to them before? Should we not use notepad? Anybody got any other suggestions?

Many Thanks for your time

Anna Cooper and Ron Hook

All I can say, is if you are concerned about development issues, stay away from FP98

One huge bug / issue that I came across, that Ive never found documented, is the fact that FP98, run on a server with 2000 ext's will cause same named pages in different directories to be over written by the currently edited document if edited in the same session.

Overall, for multi user development, its a lemon.
