Problem with form confirmation - 4/5/2001 16:27:00
I have been reading many of the related problems with form confirmation not coming up. I think it might be linked back to my server not having the email part for the Frontpage Server Extensions, but I just want to make sure. The people responsible for the server say the extensions are installed, but I want them to reinstall just to make sure. Is this a wise choice? I created a simple suggestion form and confirmation form. I correctly filled out everything you need to to get the confirmation form, etc. and have the information sent to my email address. But when you hit the submit comments button all it does is come up with the same screen again and no data in the fields at all. Hmmmmm. Can anyone take a look? http://woodcocksgs.fws.gov/suggestion_form.htm Thanks. You are more than welcome to check out the source code as well. Here is my script taken directly out of my html. I just need some reassurance that the problem is not on my end. Thanks.<form method="POST" name="Suggestion Form" action="--WEBBOT-SELF--" onSubmit="submitonce(this)"> <!--webbot bot="SaveResults" U-File="_private/form_results.txt" S-Format="HTML/BR" S-Label-Fields="TRUE" B-Reverse-Chronology="FALSE" S-Email-Format="TEXT/PRE" S-Email-Address="rebecca_holmes@fws.gov" B-Email-Label-Fields="TRUE" B-Email-Subject-From-Field="FALSE" S-Email-Subject="Woodcock Suggestion Form" S-Builtin-Fields="HTTP_USER_AGENT" U-Confirmation-Url="http://woodcocksgs.fws.gov/suggestion_confirmation.htm" -->

I don't think they need to re-install the server extensions, but it seems logical that they would need the email component installed in order for your form to work properly. I'm running Windows 2000 Server and I tested out my own site real quick. What I did was go to IIS and under Server Extensions configuration and I left the SMTP Mail Server field blank. Then I went to the email form on my website and when I hit submit I got pretty much the same thing that I got on your site (nothing happend).I assume that your webhost is running unix since you mention that they don't have the "email part of the Frontpage Server Extensions" installed, and to the best of my knowledge the Server Extensions on Windows 2000 Server is all-inclusive (it doesn't separate it into 2 separate parts). I'm not familiar with unix, but I would start with them installing the email part of the Server Extensions. Hope this helps a bit.

Ask them about the sendmail. If the extensions are installed correctly and they are using SMTP, your form should be working.I noticed on the form [FrontPage Save Results Component]. You rarely see this when the extensions are installed correctly and have not been corrupted. Many UNIX admins attempt to install one insendence of the extensions for the entire server instead of in each individual account. When they do this, anyone on the server using FTP will corrupt the extensions. Sometimes it doesn't happen right away, but it will happen sooner or later. Then these UNIX admins have no idea what is wrong with the extensions.

That [Front Page Save Results Component] message is bad news.I would think it means they need to reinstall the Frontpage extensions at least on your web folder. Or if you tried to publish using FTP instead of the publish feature you would get that error. I was on a Windows 2000 server and checked several times and it appeared that the FP server extensions were installed correctly, but they were not. When we published the same page to another server, it worked fine, though.

A quick check shows that your server DOES NOT have the extension installed at all.... Have the server admin install them and then make sure you use the FP "Publish" feature to move your files to the server. Rian
