New Member Intro - 1/28/2005 8:06:50
Hi group, my name is Frank, new to this group, just saying hello.
I am certainly no expert in webdesign or seo/sem but do love going head to head with goliaths for natural rankings.
Working on Local search seo lately, would welcome discussion on it, compare notes etc.
I have been having some amazing natural local seo results lately.
Glad to talk anything seo/sem.

Look forward to meeting new peoples in here.

Thank you to everyone for the warm welcome.
Too often the whole seo/sem thing turns into egos and I think there is room for everyone and we can learn something from everyone.
There seem to be two distinct camps in seo, I try to blend the best of both and try to deliver great content to my visitors while optimizing as much as ethically possible.
Although there seem to be many definitions of ethical. lol

I feel that if I can deliver what the seeker is looker for, stay within the guidelines of the engines, then from there is where I start.

Sorry I wasnt clear, long days, etc.
By "stay within the guidelines of the engines" I meant such as,
http://www.google.com/webmasters/guidelines.html
Thats all I meant. Hope I cleared that up?

I really would be interesting in hearing anyones take on local search methods they are using.
Opinions on MSN's new search engine?
I haven't had time to review it much myself yet.

Have a good evening,
Frank

Yeah, those are some of the guidlines I am against...

I think the search engines (Google in particular) are trying to dictate how other businesses should conduct themselves so that they (SEs) can make money faster, easier and in larger quantities.

Specifically, I am against everything under the "Quality Guidelines" sections. SE's use other people's copyrighted content to build a business model, pay the owners nothing and then demand the owners behave in a manner that allows them to have it easier?

P.S. - If you want to start a thread on a specific topic on local search that would be great.

I like the way you folks think.
I never thought of it as them basically running over copyright law and then dictating but that is exactly what they do when you put it that way.
One thing I wonder about is the lack of accountability on their part.
They have the ability to manipulate and dictate with so much unbrideled power.
Yes, they provide a free service, with natural results anyway, but they make a heck of a lot of money off of us and for that they should show more consideration in the way they conduct themselves. For example, Florida put many good quality merchants with good quality sites out of business and that makes me wonder if there should be some accountability on their part?

Sadly it takes so long for people to realize such things and gravitate away from these behemouths and diversify.

But many people are waking up to the various technological monopolies as evidenced by increasing diversity in engines, browsers, OS's and so forth, so maybe there is hope?

As far as serps, I guess we can just try to consider all options, diversify as much as possible, and not count on any one or two giants to make our living. Thank heaven we at least have a few big dogs with big wallets in the game and hope that we benefit in their efforts to out do each other.

I am going to open a thread on local search seo and see what happens.

and the irony is that Google gained steam so quickly because they were the new..little guy (as was Microsoft once upon a day).

post the local search thread....it should be a good one! As you have seen, Frank, Joe (mojo) is the most knowledgeable about search issues

I guess I over did that local search thread post?
Sorry about that, Beating the huge outfits with big wallets tends to get me fired up.

Please excuse that if it was overboard.
