Transferring a domain from "Quick Books" - 4/6/2001 17:50:00
A client does his online payroll with Quick Books (Intuit) and set up a website with them, and of course never did anything with it, aside from fill in a few (not all) of the blanks. He is very unsure about the terms of their agreement, but now wants me to build a website for him on the domain name that they set up. His business is listed as the Organization, but the technical and admin contacts are at Intuit. How do you go about getting control of a domain in a case like this? I'll want to move it to a new host, too. Thanks, Millie

Hi Millie - first find out who the registar is. Then send them a change to the DNS servers of the new host.------------------ Gil Harvey The Host Factory Resellers are our speciality "Is there another word for synonym?"

Gil- the whois lists the following:Registrar: whois.InternetNamesWW.com Organization: my client's business name (though it doesn't list an email address so I'm not sure who at his company is listed) Technical and admin: Intuit No Billing contact listed If I submit a transfer request, what will happen? I know emails will go to the contacts at Intuit, but I won't know who at his company he should tell to OK the request since I don't know where the email is going. It will all be blind to me since I'm not on the record. Yet. And that's another question - how do I become the admin and technical contact? I really would like this not to be too aggravating to the client, but if I have to make a request of him I want to be able to tell him what to expect and what exactly to do (he's not real Internet savvy). Many thanks, Millie

Write to InternetnamesWW ? quote:

Hmmm, the admin contact "should" be the owner of the domain - is that you? Technical contact needs to be the host. quote:

I would tell him you are moving his domain to your server and he may get an email for his OK. Then submit the change ti InternetnamesWW (never heard of them) and see what happens... ------------------ Gil Harvey The Host Factory Resellers are our speciality "Is there another word for synonym?"
