Networking computers...again - 1/31/2005 10:47:51
I am still fooling around with this networking computers thing. I have successfully networked all three computers in my house in the same Workgroup. I have been trying to include my daughter's computer in the workgroup but, so far, have failed. She lives in a different location and we all have Comcast high speed internet service. Is it possible to include her remote computer in the same workgroup as my other computers?

possible yes, but not easy at all.

It depends on several things and personally I've never figured out how to get it to work... though I know others who have.

There is software that can do something similar... I think it's called Kaboodle if I remember right... (free, GPL)

Well, after spending many hours reading various tutorials and trying different things, I never could get my daughter's old computer (which I brought home) to join the network at her apartment. I ended up taking the old computer up to her apt. and was able to network it with her new Dell computer and transfer all her files (mostly music) to the new computer. Maybe some day I'll figure out how to include a remote computer in my home workgroup.
