RE: REAL VIDEO ON FRONTPAGE - 4/9/2001 17:55:00
Real Bites, but this may help.A ram file simply points to the rm file. When you encode your video, it creates a rm file. You then need to create a ram file that specifies the url location of the rm file. You can use notepad to create a ram file. Here is a sample ram file. http://www.yourweb.com/yourrealmediafile.rm and that is it. One problem you may run into using Real is the fact that when you encode the file, it is not necessarily backward compatible. I used to use Real, but now I use Microsoft Net Show. It works pretty much the same as Real, but uses asx (like ram), and asf (like rm). It's nice because you can embed windows media player, and if you have windows you most likely already have media player. I also like Net Show, because it is a snap to broadcast not just video, but live streaming video, and audio.
