Frontpage Error - 2/2/2005 18:03:51
First let me say I'm a Chef/Business owner that was stupid enough to build his own web-site so please take it easy on me..LOL

I built my site last year and have up-dated it many, many times, now all of a sudden I'm having problems and getting Error messeges.

First I noticed a Conflict:

Screen Shot 1

So I ran reports and lists No Conflicts.

Then I get this Error message

Server Error: The Page Breakfastbuffet.Htm has been modified by (Unknown) on o3 Jan 2005 17:14:22-0700

Thinking it was a server problem I wrote Godady.com my hosting company they sent this:
Thank you for contacting customer support.

The 'unknown' user results from the file being uploaded by some method other than the 'FrontPage Explorer' and is an indication that the special translation process never happened. You should just try completely re-uploading the web containing the problematic page via the standard 'FrontPage Explorer' program.

Please let us know if we can help you in any other way.

Ok now what do i do most of this is Latin to me!!

Help please !!!

Chefsocal,

GoDaddy is trying to be helpful without being technically correct re: FrontPage Explorer since there is no such program. There is FrontPage Publish which is what I think they think they mean.

All this begs the question: How have you been you publishing/uploading files?

Chefsocal,

(1) Pages should not contain uppercase letters. (2) Delete conflicting pages from your host server, correct any pages with upper case letters then republish as in >>File >>Publish Site.

Hello I am new to this so please excuse me...

I have used ftp to upload a folder to the web without knowing that Frontpage (the default publisher for the website) had Frontpage extensions on it. I have read many post about not using ftp to upload if Frontpage uses the extensions. Unforturnately, I had not known this before. What can I do now? Please help.

Thank you

Hi,

That shouldn't really be a problem as recently I've just been using WS_FTP and FrontPage to publish but if I was you start the whole process from fresh.

SO I would contact the hosting company ask them to make a back up of your website (just in case) and then delete it off the net, then delete all the fp extentions and anything else in your area. Then reinstall all the fp ext. and then try publishing the whole web site from scratch, this should sort the problem out. IF not then you need to reorganize your website on your local machine, check every folder and file and make sure you know where everything is and what does what. This will be a very tiresome task but it will all be worth it at the end.

Did you find a solution to this error message?

Server Error: The Page Breakfastbuffet.Htm has been modified by (Unknown) on o3 Jan 2005 17:14:22-0700

If so would you share your findings with me. I am running into the same problem right now with a client of mine. We recently changed from a Unix server to a Windows server and all the sites are running great, except one. They are receiving the same type of error above as you were getting. I'm wondering if I need to re-install the FrontPage extensions or if there is a different solution. If you can give me any information please do.
Thank You in advance!
Hat

I hope someone can answer this one. I've got the exact same error as stated here. Anyone know if the problem is server side? My host reckons I should consider letting them clear the site and have me republish. 250 pages FP2003

Were these problems resolved by the last posters.

There used to be a Front Page Explorer and a Front Page Editor....man I'm glad they combined em....lol

I too would suggest a republish of the entiire site, but may first suggest a reinstall of the extensions on that site.

For the person that recently changed from Unix to Windows, if the sites were copied over from server to server it could be the permissions are wrong on the page that is giving trouble, whereas a complete republish could alleviate that.

Yes, I just did the whole republish and it worked a treat even FTP'd my phpbb forum files back after the republish and all seems well now.

Cheers

I spoke too soon. It's back and I'm unable to publish altered pages - a search through Google reveals a few people with this problem but there doesn't seem to be a solution - Microsoft Help!!!!

You may want to be sure to rename any pages that have upper case names.

I recently moved a new client to a server of mine that had one site with uppercae names. All went well until she tried to make changes to the pages with the upper case names,. What was happening was that when FP would recalculate the web, it was recreating the text files in one of the _vti directories with all lower case names. Upon a republish, Windows would see those pages as duplicate file names and was causing an error.

Another possible scenario is that at some point after the publish or upload, the extensuions are then becoming corrupted and need a reinstall.

You state that you are also FTP'ing into the same site after publishing successfully with FP and this is probably what is causing the extensions to become corrupted.

I have listed more than one scenario as it seems there are users experiencing different situations.

ignore it. Publish anyway.

Your updates are the ones that matter right?
