fans and mobo/cpu temps - 2/3/2005 6:35:32
i've got this motherboard AUS A7V8X-X and just the minimal amount of fans that it came with
i seem to have overheating problems occasionally so i quite often run it wirthout the case side on.

the mobo/cpu has a auto-protection feature whereyby if it gets too warm it will shur off and reboot, which it occasionally does.

anyway to the question: i installed the ASUS probe monitoring thingy that shows how fast your fans are, mobo/cpu temp/voltages etc and it says my power fan anc chassis fan (the one in the back that sits behind the power unit??) aren't working (see attached screenshot)

what to do?

p.s. there's no help file in the asus probe program (huh hardly ever need one then when you do there isn't one=)

What speed is that Dave?

But either way, that's far to hot. My P4, overclocked to 3.6Ghz, rarely hits 40C, never mind 76! I do have 7 fans in mine, and I have a gaming case too.....

You need a bigger/better cooling system in there

it's an amd athlon xp 2600+ running at 2gig (not overclocked)

how would i go about a better cooling system? i mean obviously i need to buy another fan(s) but i don't know where from it has to be relatively cheap (so i'm not buying a new case ;). i could take it to the shop where i bought the computer but i don't want to pay them loads of cash for fitting when it can't be that hard to fit. how about buying something off the net?

sometimes it sucks being in a foreign country ;)

No wonder your PC going slow...lol

Get yourself on eBay or whatever, and look for something like: http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?rb=5078296818&action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=63318

Always go for a fan that supports processors of a higher spec, they will run cooler that way:)

Check CompUSA (or the British equivelent) or check local computer shops.

You can pick up case fans for under $15 brand new... or spend up to $50 or more on them.

Get the right size for your case cuttouts, fastest, quitest fans you can find (for the right price)

Also look into a heat sinks, new fans for processor, thermal gel, etc.

You might even take your box in so they can see it and make some recommendations.

I've seen some boxes with the sides cut out and replaced with window screen (physical windows, not the digital kind)

Also make sure your box isn't sitting where it can't get air... under a desk or in the closet. And that it's not sitting near a heater or something...

Hi d a v e,

I believe it is because you are using the power supply's power connector. On the asus mobo there are (I forget the exact term) fan1, fan2. You will need to plug into those for the mobo to be able to monitor the fan.

Take care,

Brian
