Begging and pleading HELP - 4/14/2001 23:45:00
I have had one of those weeks, and its not over yet.
I have been struggling with the strangest of problems, and am so desperate, Im posting here
Firstly, there are some messages in this forum I cant answer (well, I know the answer, but it wont let me post)
Now its not a problem of this site, as other sites are also doing it to me.
Like, Ive tried to answer this thread 10 times. Each time I get a timeout.
It happens with other threads as well.
BUT I can be answering 2 other threads at the same time and they will work.
I can enter in less than 3 lines of text in the faulty one and it WILL post!!!
I am as frustrated as hell.
I dont even know if this will post as I type......

RE: Begging and pleading HELP - 4/14/2001 23:52:00
Well it didnt post as I thought. Although removing all line spaces seems to work.
But thats not all!
My email has been down for days, but not all!
The tcp/ip connection was unexpectedly terminated by the server.Server response: \'354 Enter mail, end with "," on a line by itself.
I cant send attachments or long emails without those timing out too and Ive got an inbox full of email I cant send. Short text emails seem to be no problems.
So anyone I havent responded too, I apologise and anyone I havent answered a question for, Im sorry too. But I can only type an answer so many times and have it rejected. Its a lottery as to which will work and which wont.
Here goes nothing as I press the submit button again.......

Sounds like it's time to buy a set of family pcs... it would at least help to narrow down who's problem it is.

Good luck. It sounds like you may be needing it.

Youve no idea (well - you probably have :) how many words per second a 7 month old can type whilst sitting on your lap, in front of the PC :D

Hey Spooky,

If you are stil having the problem remove TCP/IP from under network in control panel. Just a thought, corrupt files.

I do not have any type of answer for you Spooky, but I feel your pain. My printer is suffering from the same "gremlin" as your PC. If the document contains over a half a page of words it takes hours to print. I hit print to print out a 3 page order form the other day and 2 hours after I hit the print button it started to print. Then just to test it I let it go and yes 6 hours later I had the order form in hand...lol I have tried other printers, cables, changed settings, everything and it's still not working. Learning from what the others have posted on this thread it may indeed be the fact the I share THIS PC with 6-8 small children on a daily basis. Maybe it's their revenge because I will not let them print out a hundred Barney pages a day.

Well, when things got really bad for my and my OS, I deleted Windows and Reinstalled. Cleared up all kinds of problems. Still have to do a lot of fine tuning though....reinstalling programs, etc.

Spooky,

Have no idea if this will help. Have no idea what kind of computer and software you have. Just thought I would share my experience with you in case it would help. I too had some weird problems happening with my computer, an IBM Aptiva with 850mhz and a 40 meg hard drive running Windows 98SE and all the Office Suite of products. I use Outlook (not Outlook Express) for my email. My intermittent symptoms included sluggish typing, not being able to view source code on webs, and a variety of other strange things. I had installed some additional IE 5.5 features and believe as a result some dll's were corrupt, missing or needed to be reinstalled. I did an Office/Outlook repair then downloaded and reinstalled the dll libraries from the MS site and my problems are gone. It would appear that after some installations or reinstallations, the dll libraries need to be reinstalled. Check out the MS Site and search for dll library.

Hello Spooky,
I can only offer this week's local 'problemette' and its solution.
Google suddenly lost its ability to acquire web sites that it had found in a search. Double clicking just ceased to work on the listed entries.
Similarly sites acquired in a regular IE5.5 request would open OK but links wouldn't work within them.
Other systems on my small network did not have the same problem and went to the web via the same router AOK.
Solution ......
On the offending system I did a Ctrl Panel > Add/Remove Programs > Internet Explorer 5.5 > Repair and all was well.
Who knows ... it's certainly easier than lots of re-installs !!

YES!!!!

My internet service provider sucks!!

I tried an old dialup account through a differnet provider, and cant replicate the same problem.

Posting is back to normal, but (obviously) they are going to fix my connection whether they believe its them or not.

Im not paying for a rooted satelite account and using a dailup for twice the price

I feel an irate phone call coming.......
