Do search engines weigh the following tags the same?

<h1 class="pagetitle">Some Text Here</h1>

vs

<h1>Some Text Here</h1>

An h1 is an h1.

If you're worried about it then style the h1 in the stylesheet and don't use a class.

bbuuuuuuuuuut I have multiple h1s with different classes. Just wondering if adding the class will not make it weigh as good.

I wouldn't use more than 2, but there doesn't seem to be much of a boost from using the H1 tag anyhow.

Look at 'baby clothes' ( a competitive term), the #1 has something like 6 words.

Interesting.. I think I am using about three of them, just curious which one should be H1, and the others use the class. But it sounds like it doesn't quite matter much.

I can't believe places like annegeddes[dot]com can be at #1 spot with such a bad intro page.

right now it appears they do. In the future you will see google parsing your style sheets so you cannot have somthing like this:

<style>
.smalltitle{ font-size:9px; }
</style>

<h1 class="smalltitle">cpap machines</h1>

Google will rank this lower in the future. It doesn't do this now however because this kind of css resolving would take enourmous computing power.

Put it in an external style sheet so you don't have the class in the document.... [;)]
