Email forms will not - 2/17/2005 16:52:21
Have a web site that absolutely will not sent form emails. It has worked for 18 months and has suddenly stopped. My host says it is not their problem and that I should talk to Microsoft. Ha ha. I have forms set up exactly the same way on a different web site and with different host and they work perfectly.
Does anyone have any ideas? I'm using FP 2002.

Typical tech support cop-out. The only possible explanation is that your FrontPage Extensions are corrupted. If you can't uninstall/reinstall them via your Host's control panel it becomes a matter of getting your (low) tech support folks to cooperate.

The Control Panel on my host's web site allows me to 'Install' and 'Uninstall' the extensions. Doing that has not helped. Do you have any other thoughts or ideas?

I just sent a (OutFront Test) message from: http://jaxareagolfassn.com/MtgNoticeMinutes/meeting_notice_timed.htm . The form looks normal (albeit long) and confirms normally.
What's going wrong on your end? Not receiving the Reply Form Confirmation? Something else?
BTW, your server response (below) is inconclusive because of the statement "This Web Server Does Not Disclose Identity". Since your form looks and acts normally, I'm guessing FrontPage Extensions are installed.

It is supposed to send an email to me and to a fellow who makes the reservations at the golf course. I have it send to me so that I know the confirmation emails are working. Neither of us are getting the email.

Let me know how the two following fields read on your Submit Button Form Properties: File Name and E-Mail Address.
Also did you answer Yes or No on the Microsoft Office FrontPage Drop Down box (after completing the Submit Button Form Properties) which begins with "This form cannot be configured to send results via e-mail ...."

The properties of the form (where the submit button resides) shows "thankyoupage.htm" for the File Name and "barneyposton@jaxareagolfassn.com" for the email address. On my host's web site, email sent to that address is supposed to be forwarded to "barneypo@bellsouth.net".

I am surprised this form is working at all. There appear to be 7 or 8 identical forms on this page. Generally, the FrontPage form handler has trouble when more than one form is on the same page.
Unless I missed something, when looking at properties, it appears all of these forms are set to Send to other: although instead of sending to script, they are directing to webbot self. When sending to email and file this relies on Send to:
I did a couple of submits (I can be identified by the ddd's).
I didn't see anywhere the forms were set to email. If there is a reference to this, please direct me to the area of HTML where it is showing.

I have created a very simple form at http://jaxareagolfassn.com/form.htm . The form was created manually (not using the wizard). In creating the form, all the defaults were used except for adding the email address. The form WILL NOT send email to barneyposton@jaxareagolfassn.com. At the same time, I can send email to that address using Outlook. It seems something is wrong in FrontPage.

Hi Barney,
Try removing the second email and republish. Normally, FP will only submit to a single address using the FP form handler.
If this doesn't fix things, it may be a problem with the SMTP not being configure to send formmail.
This is definitely a working form, as it took me to the default confirmation page.

I just added the second email during the night. It was not working before then and as you can see, it is not working after the addition. I will do as you suggest though and remove it and republish.
If it is an SMTP problem, where do I go for help on that?

Hey Barney,
At this point I think you need to discuss the SMTP issue with your web host.
Unfortunately, some hosts, although they say they support FrontPage publishing , sometimes don't support the FrontPage form handler.
If your host has a built in Cgi or other form handling script, you could build the form with FrontPage and use the Send to other: function to direct to script.

This form has worked with my existing host for 18 months. Suddenly it quit working about 2 weeks ago.
I am not not clear on what you are suggesting that I should do next, but I do notice that my host does not mention anything about CGI scripts on their control panel.
Do you think it would help anything if 1) I completely remove the web site from the host server and then re-upload or 2) remove and reinstall FrontPage on my computer?

I gave up! I have just changed to a new web host. I have gone with StartLogic. Have had good luck with them with my other web site. Would not recommend the old host which was Lonex. Their support sucks. Unbelievable to me but it appears that their web server doesn't talk to their mail server.
I really appreciate the help from you all. I learned a lot even in a losing battle.
