woohoo -> best approach to adding dynamic/animated elements? (2/18/2005 4:55:39)

Hi there,
I'm so green at this stuff... but i'd like to add some dynamic elements (animated etc) to a site.

The following elements are what i'm considering but there are some problems that i can't figure out by myself.

A. Frontpage marquee for scrolling text tagline:

problem)
Works fine in Internet Explorer but is wonky in Netscape... (keeps scrolling repeatedly even though it's set for only 1 scroll)

B. Javascript "slideshow" code to animate the logo (for twinkling star effect):

problem 1)
It works fine in internet explorer but is jerky in Netscape.

problem 2)
I can't figure out how to use the slideshow code twice on the same webpage. I'd like to have this code for a photo slideshow as well.(tried renaming the slideshow to "slideshow1" in various places of the code to no avail)

C. Any other suggested options for animating the logo? And for having an automatic slideshow (cross-dissolve) on the same page?(Like a flash animation for the logo and slideshow code for the photos?)

D. Would these elements make dial-up internet clients frustrated?

Have a look at some of the javascript ones at javscript source or hotscripts. They usually say which browsers they are compatible with.

You're normally pretty safe with flash these days as its almost universally supported.

Hi woohoo,

The add-on components in FP, try not to use them, usually only work properly in Ex-plorer. Download all browsers to view your work because it will render differently. All of the add-on components can be found at script sites like Nigel said, hotscripts, java source, zdnet, web masters channel.. etc, and they usually post browser compatability.

Dial-up.. connection speeds will not alter the look of a page, just the speed of how long it takes to load.
