FPSE problems - 2/21/2005 15:06:00
Hey Guys, I published my first site using FP 2003 to my ISP 10MB webspace. It has no DB but it at least has FPSE. It works fine. I wanted to add some forms, so to test it I installed my IIS server (version 5.1, XP SP2). After moving my website files to ...\wwwroot, it worked fine. I noticed that on my ISP site, when I pushed a "submit" button, I got a confirmation page. But when I did the same thing through localhost, my server, I got this message: "FrontPage Run time Components page. You have selected a form or followed a link to a page that requires a web server and the Front Page Server Extensions to function properly. This form or other FrontPage component will work correctly if you publish this web to a web server that has the FrontPage Server Extensions installed." which I assumed meant that my FPSE were not installed properly. So I checked add/remove programs again and found that I had installed FPSE 2000 when I installed XP SP1 (I have upgraded to SP2 since). I unchecked it, ran the add/remove program, downloaded FPSE 2002 ver 5.0.2.2623 from Microsoft and installed it. During installation I got the following message: "The server administration programs and the server extensions on the web server are not compatible. The administration program is too old to use with this server." What is wrong and how do I fix it. I still get the same error messages. Help Racing Chicken

Duane Welcome To Outfront quote:
After moving my website files to ...\wwwroot, it worked fine. Even if working with FP Component reliant pages locally on your machine, you will still need to publish the files to http://localhost/ Copying the over is not the same process I'm afraid Dan

Dan, Thank you for the kind welcome and prompt reply. I actually figured that out and tried to publish to localhost. Here's what I got: "unable to open http://localhost. Server error: the web server at http://localhost does not appear to have windows sharepoint services installed. Possible causes: 1) the web server may not have the FPSE installed 2-4) not applicable." I'm still not sure my FPSE are installed properly. Based on this assumption, I created a new partition, loaded windows server 2003 (defaults are IIS 6.0 and FPSE 2002) and it almost killed my whole system. I replaced it with another instance of XP Pro SP1a, used the default IIS 5.1 and FPSE 2000. I installed Office 2000. The extensions seemed to work there, but I got another incomprehensible error message, so I stubbornly decided to make my current installation work. Is there a way to check to be sure if your FPSE are installed. Some diagnostic or something? If not should I install Sharepoint services? and if so, how? Helpless, Duane
