Tad -> Relevance of PR from sites linking to me (2/21/2005 23:06:02)

As a general rule, is it better to try only for backlinks that are PR4 or above? Or, say, would a few dozen PR3s be of any significant benefit if I'm already a PR4 myself? And, which is most important, the PR of the page they are listing you on or the PR of the site's homepage?

Also, is it still a good idea to pay Yahoo to get listed in their directory for the link? I can't get in the DMOZ because my site isn't thematically sound.

Sorry, that was a lot of questions. Please help where you can.

Thanks,

Tad

Page that the link is coming from.

Who's to say waht todays PR4 site will be in a few months. I tend to submit to them myself based on just that (Being only one factor).

Take care,

- If you are lazy, yes.

If you can take the time, I would research better methods of bringing in users. Last time I looked, yahoo/msn were around $199 to be listed, yet you can run a PPC ad with yahoo/msn/google, and have a better turn around. If you can get on the first couple pages for certain keywords, definately spending the money to get listed is a good idea, but it is hard to tell where you will be when you pay them.

in fact, the last time I checked, yahoo doesnt even guarantee listing - the $195 is just to review your site.

I have sen heavy weight lately for sites listed in the Yahoo directory...

I just recently purchased my first directory submission.

They gave me two cats and had me listed within 72 hours....

Not bad....

Shouldn't I be more concerned with page rank? PPC will help me target some specific terms, but overall page rank will benefit my entire site and all of my products, right?

I was hoping to find a solid high PR backlink that I could depend on.

Then why would I want a Yahoo listing? I went to the Yahoo directory page for my category and it has no PR.

- It depends on a LOT of things. Hosts/Web Designers tend to focus on PPC because it is hard to get good PR and be at the top when you have so many other people who you are competing with. No reason to spend $200 when you can spend $20 and actually get results.

Then why would I want a Yahoo listing?
- To be in the Yahoo directory.
