Large File Download problems.... - 3/4/2005 19:47:44
hello,

I am creating a website that has a "files" section for users to upload/download files.

I am using WebExplorer Lite to handle the file listing for each folder, uploading, downloading, and deleteing files.

Initially, I couldn't upload any files larger than 97kb, but I searched on the internet and found info about editing the metabase. I did that and now I can upload large files between 20 - 50MB. So far so good....

Problem is, I can't download the same files. I click on the file and it starts to download, but it stops around 40% and then I get the "page not found" error.

I am running Windows 2003 Server, IIS6. Anyone come across this problem before, or know of something that might handle both large upload/downloads? (Only needs to be about 50MB for ppt presentations)

Thanks for the help

dave

Never used it but if it's just uploading and downloading files that's the problem, try an ftp program such as Filezilla and see if you get the same problem.

If you do then it's not the software, it'll be some download limit set by the server.

Hi Jaybee,

Thanks for your help! You clued me in to what the problem was. I actually had to change some IIS 6 settings and now everything is working. In case it helps someone else, here is what I did:

1.) opened the "metabase.xml" file and changed the following variable:
"AspBufferingLimit" - default was around 4MB, changed it to a higher value, I used 15MB and now I can download larger files

2.) still in the "metabase.xml" file - changed the variable "AspMaxRequestEntityAllowed" to 50MB, thus allowing a user to upload a file with a size up to 50MB. Now that is working too!!

Again, a big thanks! Now on to whatever the next problem may be!

dave :)
