CelticDragon -> height 100% problem (3/8/2005 9:13:12)

Hey guys, made great use of the Height 100% tip in the RSS feed last week but for some reason it's playing havoc with a page I'm doing ....

I put in the height:100%; in the html and body and then in my screen res (I've a big screen!) the middle bits weren't repeating the background and the windows were half way down the screen. Of course this is only in IE - in FF it looks perfect! I then put in the height:100% in the navigation and main window cell and it joined everything up nicely, but now the page goes on for ever!

Any ideas?

EDIT: As always, what do you think of the designs? I know that's really a site critique question but you know me - I crave validation as I go along!!!! [:D]

Edit 2: It seems to be just one of those IE things.... will have to make do with not having the page go all the way to the bottom I guess..... A well....[:(]

Stephen

IE doesn't parse the height: 100%; - nobody knows why

maybe because it doesn't know what it's 100% of ;) (e.g. viewport, body, ....)

Doesn't matter what you apply it to Dave, IE won't parse it[;)]

not even without a doctype?

Nope, but there's something I wanna try before I say that for sure...[;)]

Hi CD, I believe this is an IE bug, maybe if you do a search on it you might find a hack. I think there is one, but I can't remember it off hand.

I don't believe I'm saying this, but the above link is best viewed in IE

to be honest thinking in terms of 100% is inately flawed for the net. it's useful for print but for the net you'll never know how big the canvas is (does the page scroll) or what 100% is count as. don't go there ;) unless you can find a robust way of doing it!

CD
here are a few links for you that have hacks for this
http://www.sitepoint.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1243541&postcount=8

Also you might wish to search "Holly hack", after Holly Bergevin, she is the one that I believe came up with the hack for the height problem. She is associated with PIE and writes article with John for Pie as well as for the CMX site.
