Statbrain.com - tell me what you think - 3/8/2005 15:37:52
Hi Everybody

I just launched this new free site where everyone can enter an URL and the site will estimate the number of visitors that the site has, based on different online sources.

The site is called www.statbrain.com and I would really like some feedback.

Try entering your own site and see how good www.statbrain.com is at guessing the number of visitors that you have.

I've has some problems with Internal Server Errors so tell me if you get one.

Any sort of feedback is very welcome either here or use the forms on the website for any other confidential feedback.

I love the design because there actually is no design at all. Clean and clear.

The only problem is that (on Firefox) when I hover the links at the top, they are all black. I mean text is black and background is black. They vanish. Probably you shouldn't specify such universal rules as a { color: #000 } before declaring the hover effect in the CSS.

Also when I open a new page (or hit reload) the page is aligned right, then after half a second gets centered. Like one of those typewriter heads going right and left, I guess you know what I mean. Just a little annoyance.

Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@statbrain.com and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

Hi

With my first site I got an error first try then a rather generous result second time - about twice that which my stats record (?).

Tried another site and was shown no links from google, when I went to google the search was written like this:

site:www.website.etc - no links

When I separated the site address from the colon I got 3 links showing - i.e.

site:[space]www.website.etc

looks like a potentially useful tool though :)

The Firefox bug has been fixed, does it work for everybody?

Now I'm working on the Internal Server Error thing which is a bit more difficult.

I've got some requests on moving the logo to the left. So that is what I've done, I like it what do you think?

I've also changed the logo slightly.

Hiya

Just tried going on to the site and works fine. Tried about 5 times and no errors came up - Im using IE and it works fine. Will keep trying throughout the day and let you know if it fails anytime.

Like the look of the site clean and simple. :)

Yes Yes Yes!!

Finally it happened; I solved the “Internal Server Error” problem.

So what was the solution? Well is all very simple. The Internal Server Errors was something that I hadn’t experienced locally so I figured out I should try a new hosting company. That I did and the problem was solved.

I guess the message is: choose the right hosting company!

P.S. The domain has been transferred 24 hours ago, but some might still see the old hosting company for a few more hours...

Zach,

You might want to rework this statement; "Don't throw your statistics book".

Just a small update from Statbrain. I didn’t want to start a new thread, but I have to tell you about the improvements on Statbrain.

I record all visitor feedback so that I can keep track of the improvement of Statbrain. When Statbrain was launched less then 15% of the visitor estimates were close to the real visitor number. This number has increased to 25%. I know there is a long way to go, but Statbrain is being improved month by month.

With a little help from the visitors 60% of the estimates on Statbrain will be pretty close to the right visitor number.
