Hi there. I'm a Kindergarten teacher and would like to know how to make clip art. You see, I like to create my own worksheets to use in my class. To make them cute for my kids I use clip art such as DJ inkers and others I find on the web. I know that is illegal so, despite the fact that I'm not an artist in any way, I decided to create my own stick characters to use on my worksheets. The problem is I don't know how to get them on the computer and onto a disk or cd to save. I have a scanner and, since I work for a school district, have access to almost any graphic program (but don't know which one to use). There, I also have access to a Wacom Intuos tablet although I really don't know how to use it. I have tried finding info on the web and haven't really found anything helpful since most of the info. is about web graphics. I would appreciate any and all advice I could get and since I love to read, I don't mind buying a book (even if it's a textbook) that would tutor me in that area.
Thanks so much for your help[:)]
Linda

what graphics programs do you have at school?

Your scanner should be able to scan and save the file as a .jpg

A .jpg file can be inserted into most document types and manipulated... I think clipart is done in .bmp but I'm not entirely sure.

From there it really depends on what you want to do with it. If you need it in a different format (.gif or .bmp) you can open it in a graphics editor, "save as" and change the file type (some require that you file > export)

If you have a digital camera you can also take a picture of it, save it to your PC (automatically a .jpg image) and then play with it.

You can insert it into your document as is or change colors, add effects, shrink or enlarge, etc using a graphics program first. Which program really depends on which ones you have and what you are planning on doing...

Thanks...we have Adobe Illustrator, Corel Draw, Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro to name a few. Is there one that is better or easier to use than another?
Thanks'

thanks so much. I don't have any program except for your typical computer program (Photoshop, Microsoft Word) but at school I have access to several programs. But from what you are telling me, it seems that all I have to do is just scan and then I can use it. I have tried scanning one of my images but it ended up with a white box around it. When I tried to paste it to my worksheet, the box covered some of my writing lines (I was trying to place a stick figure sitting on the writing lines where the kids practice writing their letters). Is there something I can do to make that box go away?
Thanks so much for your help

Save the file as a transparent gif.

Hi Jaybee..thanks so much for your help. I did try saving as a transparent gif but I can't figure out how to do it. Should I be using a particular drawing/art program? Thanks so much for your help.

All the packages you mentioned above should save it. PSP will. File>Export pick the file type gif and you should get a pop-up if you read that closely there should be a tick box for transparent. If not, hit the wizard button and it'll take you through step by step.

lindalu -> RE: Help Needed (3/22/2005 20:33:13)

I will try that. Thanks so much. I know it seems simple but I really don't know much about graphic programs so I really thank you very much. Hopefully when I finally figure it out, I will post one of my worksheet so you can see what you helped me with.
Thanks
Linda
