Recommend CSS Book - 3/9/2005 23:10:55
Can anyone recommend a good CSS book?
A book intended for intermediate to advanced usage instead of an introduction for newbies. And one that has an open mind for developing with FrontPage.
Tutorial web sites are fine but a real physical book to sift through would probably be a bit more helpful.
There are plenty of books out there but any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have numerous css books, however, I would recomend the
Cascading Style Sheets A Beginner's Guide by James H. Pence.
You can find this for a decent price on amazon.com.

As you said, not at an introduction level -
I always come back to :
Zeldman, Jeffrey. Designing with web standards.New Riders,2003.
Also as Jayee said, Elizabeth Castro's book.
New to my list is Cederholm, Dan. Web standards solutions: the markup and style handbook. Springer-Verlag, 2004 " A solutions oriented guide to using standards-based techniques in your daily work".

That's a hard one  , just ignore the jibes and so long as you know how to use FP there is no problem. I don't use FP for creating stylesheets, but it can be a help in code view for tracking down unclosed elements in your (x)html.

There is a new book out on css that is written to go along with the Zen Garden, this is a book for advanced css-ers. You can find it on bookpool.com. I think its a number one seller right now. Also, if you search bookpool, you will find a good amount of css books. What I do is look there, then go to the amazon.com site, check the prices with shipping between the two sites.
There are several new books on css that are arrvign out on the market in the next couple of months that you can pre order at bookpool.com.
The one that I mentioned above, even though it states for beginners, its an excellent book to have. I would say that it could also be for someone more advanced with what it covers within it.

No problem Caz, It looked like it was going to be a book that would be great to add to a css library.
It does stress though that its not a book for beginners. I have to emphasize that for newbies to css.

I have been using "Cascading Style Sheets The Definitive Guide" by Eric Meyer and O'Reilly Books
It has good info on borders, padding and margins, and positioning

. At a first look it is a beautifully produced book that takes some of the well known sites in the Zen Garden and uses them to illustrate certain CSS problems and their solutions. I look forward to finding the time to read it properly.
