Tad -> Integrated e-commerce program and SEO (3/12/2005 19:55:04)

We are looking at restructuring our business and are considering several of the full e-commerce solution packages. Does anyone know of any particlar problems with using such programs?

I am concened about a few things, such as my lack of control over the code. Also, all of the pages seem to be written in asp. Will there likely be problems getting content indexed in Google if most of the pages are dynamic? I know Google is supposed to be getting better with dynamic content, but I'd rather wait until they get it perfected before going that route. Incidentally, some of the packages do have an option for making all page HTML.

Does anyone have experience with these things?

Tad

Depends, who will you be using? They all work differently.

Depends, if you do not have a session ID in the string Google can index it, has been able to for a few years. However depending on what NOS your host has you on you could utilize mod.rewrite (I believe is what it is called).

Take care,

Brian

Thanks, Brian. The two programs I am looking at are StoreFront and Volusion. Do you anything about them? I will email both about the session ID question.

Also, what does "NOS" stand for?

Thanks,

Tad

Yup, I've used it for years. I however can not offer current comment as I have not worked with that product for around two years. I used to do a lot of cheer leading for them. Bob LaGarde however has taken a very unique stance on his polices and how the product works IMHO. Straw that broke the camels back was with SF6 and activation servers. I will say no more on that subject, just read in depth about that first.

Back to your question, at the point that I was using it I ran an SQL DB. I used dynamic pages. They got spidered very nicely once I implemented dynamic METAs and title descriptions. Just look it up in the SF KB if they do not do it out of the box.

I have never tried to return any of there products but I heard a lot both ways.

They had a nice forum. They have switched software, servers, and structure. I really never got into the new forum. As always pay attention to who is posting advise as there are/were some real good gurus who wrote mods. The mods were expensive in my mind though (I am an OSC person now).

HTH and take care,

Brian
