Unwanted item "<![endif]-->" appearing ... - 3/22/2005 21:51:46
"<![endif]-->" appears on MSIE in the upper left-hand corner of the page; but not on Firefox or Netscape or Opera. I looked at the HTML code for this page and "<![endif]-->" appears in several places. Being a newbie, i do not know HTML (yet). Any advice appreciated.

The website is tuckpartners.com/Iba. The user ID is member, pw is wtcatl. You will be prompted two times for both. Does anyone know how i can get the page to prompt only once?

Thanks, Tuck

Hi Tuck,

Your page's code contains "conditional comments". The <![endif]--> on line 1202 has no corresponding <!--[if ...]> before it, so it's hanging out there like text. If you delete it, it should disappear from your page.

A suggestion, if you don't mind: There are 1405 lines of code in the .htm file... way more than would normally be necessary to create such a page. You can attribute the code bloat to MS Word. If you have any other software that you could use to make your pages, you'd probably have better luck, and much better load times. Best to use an application that is meant for creating web pages (if you can get one). You could probably find some for free. Just a friendly suggestion.

Cheers,

Kevin

Kevin, thanks, many thanks. i will get cracking on learning more and finding a better app for creating files. I can put everything into PDF. Would this reduce the code bloat?

Kind regards, Tuck

PDF isn't really a website. Portable Document Format works great for publishing papers and such on your website... but you need an html editor.

Since you're inexperienced with HTML I'd recommend getting Frontpage if you need to stay busy and can't take some time to learn the tags. It's by far the best WYSIWYG editor for the price (though the price tag for 2003 jumped up quite a bit)

HTML is startlingly easy to learn. Anybody can do it. Refining those tags into a nice website is another story... but you should be able to get the basics, no problem and then learn from there.

Then you just come back here to ask questions ;)

Do a web search for free html editors. You'll find Arachnophilia, Notepad++, FirstPage2000, etc. (those three I've used and like a lot)

But you can do it in notepad as well.

Then go here to get the basics:
www.w3schools.com
