Spooky -> Dell modular battery (3/23/2005 14:59:48)

If anyone comes across a Dell modular battery for a 510m, Id love to hear about it.

Dell (locally anyway) dont provide a modular battery ( one that fits in the DVD bay ) for my model. Id really like to find one as the 3 hours or so I currently get isnt enough and I dont wish to carry a 'spare' outside of the notebook

Somewhat obvious question here but the Dell expert next to me says

"Have you tried Dell?"

Maybe at www.voltdepot.com

"have I tried dell?" !!, Yes they suck ;-)

Its listed as an option in the hand book, but after ringing them and checking their site (locally and abroad) I cant come up with anything except a maybe...sometime....

jaybee -> RE: Dell modular battery (3/24/2005 8:17:54)

I'll get the Oracle to check for you.

Spooky -> RE: Dell modular battery (3/24/2005 8:28:50)

I await in anticipation (although not too long as the battery may run out ;-)

jaybee -> RE: Dell modular battery (3/24/2005 8:41:54)

So at the rate you're using it, that gives me about 10 minutes then.

jaybee -> RE: Dell modular battery (3/25/2005 4:53:03)

Seems it is possible to get the battery over here but not in NZ. On Tuesday when all the techs are back he's going to try and find out if there's some sort of voltage issue. If not then we'll see if we can get something sorted.

Batteries Plus
N. High St.
Columbus, Oh 43214
(614)431-2665
$180.00 US

No issue on voltage as it is converted internally.

Take care,

Spooky -> RE: Dell modular battery (3/25/2005 15:26:22)

No online sales Brian?

Well that's what we think but there has to be some reason why it's not available in NZ and I'm determined to find out what.

No, but you have a local courier [;)] who would be happy to help out.

Thank you,

Brian

Did you see a battery specifically for the Inspiron 510m? I only see 500, I believe those are different [&o]

Egad!

All I get at the link is this:

Let me call them to see, brb.

Spooky -> RE: Dell modular battery (3/29/2005 16:21:39)

Doh!, someone let the batteries run flat [;)]

Reflect -> RE: Dell modular battery (3/29/2005 16:31:54)

Yup, they never heard of the 510m. They even called the next level supplier/company rep. I did a fast search and reviewed the first 20 sites while I was on hold. I found the laptop, plenty of DVD rom burners for that bay but not one battery found.

That is just WEIRD.

Sorry,

Brian

Spooky -> RE: Dell modular battery (3/29/2005 16:35:46)

So Im not loosing my mind after all? wait....dont answer that.

bobby -> RE: Dell modular battery (3/29/2005 19:01:42)

I wonder if you could actually get ahold of a Dell rep who would tell you if that other battery would fit..?

I have a Samsung laser printer at work... nobody has ever heard of it. Can't find toner for it anywhere...

Turns out it's a Canadian model number for the same printer we already had, and they both use the same toner cartridge...

Spooky -> RE: Dell modular battery (3/29/2005 19:17:13)

I did consider that, but youd have to assume they would know which ones would interconnect?
It must be a pretty standard fit, as far as the dvd drive goes.
I wouldnt imagine a different dvd drive would be created for each new model.

It just irks me that the owners manual shows the modular battery available! [>:]

Ill see what JB can come up with [&:]

jaybee -> RE: Dell modular battery (3/30/2005 3:35:07)

We're being told that this one is compatible. Getting it checked.

Spooky -> RE: Dell modular battery (3/30/2005 13:58:13)

Thats the general design, Ill ask the specific question over here and see if I can get an answer too.
Thats always the model that pops up in my searches, however its not a model supplied here either... [&o]

jaybee -> RE: Dell modular battery (3/30/2005 17:22:55)

You should be able to order that direct from that page. If not, and it's the right one, we could get it for you.

Harvey says they're very delicate so he'd have to bring it out to you personally and spend a couple of weeks with you to make sure you've installed it properly.

jaybee -> RE: Dell modular battery (3/30/2005 18:05:44)

Concensus is that the 510m and the 600 are almost identical and the battery should be fine.

Only difference is chipset and processor otherwise identical.

Rajman1138 -> RE: Dell modular battery (3/30/2005 21:15:57)

Hey All Remember me??...I just bought an Inspiron 610m and there are no accessories out this model but supposedly some of the stuff for the 510m will fit the 610m, but if that is the case then I don't think that a modular battery exists because, one of the few negatives I found when researching this laptop before buying was that the battery life with the standard 4 cell battery was awful only 2.5 to 3 hrs and every review that I saw said to get the extended 8 cell battery that lasts 4.5 to 5 hours, and people were commenting about how they thought that it was stupid that they didn't offer a modular battery that would fit in the cd drive bay, so I would be curious to see if one acctually does exist and if it would fit the 610 Luckily I got the 8cell extended battery so I am good as far a battery life goes but would still be interested to see if this illusive magically 510 and 610 modular battery exists or if it is just a figment of our collective imagination![:D]

jaybee -> RE: Dell modular battery (3/31/2005 3:26:47)

It exists. Go to the link I put in the post above.

Spooky -> RE: Dell modular battery (3/31/2005 8:09:35)

Had a dell tech call back today, theyve just been made available down under too - bit more expensive than up over.....
