new computer, old Front Page - 3/23/2005 22:47:23
Dear Helpers - the old computer fried last week, have a new built computer now with WinXPhome. they also put on Microsoft Office that shows Microsoft Front Page, which is 2002. Is this a full program? My website was built with FP98, then FP2000. I was going to just reload FP2000 and then download the website from the host server onto my harddrive.

Should I rebuild website in the FP2002 program? and if so would I be able to download my old site from the host into the new program? am I really confused? Yes! what's the best way to go.

thanks for any and all help. Dar

Should be the full version as I don't believe MS has ever released a scaled-down version. It also should be fully compatible with your FP 2000 web. There are some subtle differences, but nothing all that noteworthy. You will like the fact that it adds a tab for each page you have open making it easier to switch between pages. I have seen some people have issues with themes when upgrading to FP2002 from 2000, but the issue seems to be resolved by installing the latest MS Office hotfixes.

If you backed up your data before the computer fried you should find your local files there eg. My Documents\My Webs\ etc. But other wise, if you open your hosted site within FP2002 http://www.yoursite.xxx/ you should be able to Publish site back to your local drive. That's if you are using Frontpage extensions on your hosted site.
