Real View 360 -> Includes (3/26/2005 11:56:02)

HI all
Why is it that when I insert an Includes webbot in a table , it will show up when I preview but not when I view through a browser?

Brad

You have to upload it to a host with the FPSEs enabled for the browsers to be able to show it. Browsers don't natively convert bots.

Actually I'm not sure that's true. From the M$ Knowledge Base...
quote:

Most FrontPage components affect the Web only at authoring time. For example, an Include Page component or Table of Contents affects the page it is on only when that page or some other page is created or modified. These FrontPage components are inactive at browse-time. However, some FrontPage components, especially those that are used with forms, rely on the FrontPage Server Extensions at browse-time. If you are transferring your files to a Web server on which the FrontPage Server Extensions are not installed, you should avoid using the following FrontPage components:

  • Confirmation Field
  • Discussion Form Handler
  • Guest Book
  • Registration Form Handler
  • Save Results Form Handler
  • Scheduled Image
  • Scheduled Include Page component
  • Search Form Hit counters

Can you describe the steps you took to use the include component and have you tried to refresh the site before viewing it in the browser? If there's a URL it might help us to be able to look at it.

I made a blank new page and entered text that I wanted to appear on all pages in the site. The did insert web component> included content> Page. And inserted it in the Page I wanted it in design view. I can see it in the Preview stage. But if I save and view in browser it disappears. It's like the space that is holding it collapses.
Here is a site it is on
http://realview360.com/Realtor1/
It should appear in the space between Welcome and the Latin in the grey space. It is Name and address and phone no.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks
Brad

Brad, can you move the include in question to another part of the page? Say out in the white center area. The header include is working so it's not that includes won't work on the site. It seems something else is at work here.[&:]

Real View 360 -> RE: Includes (3/27/2005 9:20:10)

The include is not in the center white area, but in the grey area to the right side of the site. I have included a PDF to show where it is suppoed to be.
And Yes I have tried two or three places for this

Looks as though I cannot send the PDF. No attachment area??

This is happening on several sites I have out there. I'm sure I'm doing something....or not doing something.. Just don't know what it is.

Brad

Sorry I mis-read your post...
I did try and move it to the white area...No difference!?!

I realize that.[:D] What I was asking is whether you could move it into the open area to see if it's the location that might be causing the problem (like the two images in the cell collapsing on it)[;)]. Don't know why it should though. I tried something like that on one of my sites just for ha ha's and the images didn't cover the include.[&:]
Kind of grasping at straws here since the page looks OK in FP.

OK how about trying the absolute path to the include.

Real View 360 -> RE: Includes (3/27/2005 9:47:43)

Since the Theme is from Out Front I think I will try Tom...

Is there a way to email this set of posts to him?

or should I just direct him to them?

Brad

Real View 360 -> RE: Includes (3/27/2005 9:53:56)

I'm sorry again. It seems we are posting at the same time....
If I put that into my browser it comes right up to the page with the info on it.
Are you telling me to place that somewhere on my page...

Not understanding the last statement

Brad

Mike54 -> RE: Includes (3/27/2005 10:03:13)

I think I may have it.
If you check this link you'll see that the include page should be a complete page. Yours isn't, you've deleted all the <head> and <body> tags. Try recreating the include from a blank page and not removing the default html and let's see if that works. If you check the header include you'll see it contains all the normal tags (and it works)[;)].

That Was it!!!!!!!!!

Wow I have been going crazy over this for two weeks...

Thanks so much!

OK One more thing..
To save myself the future aggravation, How do I make sure the tags are included in future pages....
I thought I saved as an html....
But it was a few weeks ago...
and I am a "newbee"

Thanks again

Brad

Mike54 -> RE: Includes (3/27/2005 10:25:52)

AFAIK the tags are there by default in new pages so just don't go to Code view and delete anything.[;)]

Real View 360 -> RE: Includes (3/27/2005 10:27:08)

Got it.....[8|]

Ummm, OK. So the browsers don't handle SOME bots.

It also helps no end if you read the post properly in the first place.

Bad Jaybee. Smacky smacky.

Sorry Brad.

Thanks Mike.
