CSS re-linking itself? - 3/28/2005 9:06:22
I got this question from a user group: quote:
Twice this year users have had a problem with a recently created file named Style2.css. For some unknown reason about half of our files suddenly link to Style2.css. When they were created they were linked to other .css files we use, and worked fine. But suddenly they are now linked to Style2.css. We have to manually remove Style2.css and add the previous .css. Yesterday a user opened Style2.css to show others the file and explain some of the styles. This was done from a PC that only has FP 2000 (we have 2002 on our own PC’s). She did perform a find/replace/save on the file, and remembers a message about overriding a css file. She assumed that was the Style2.css file and said OK. Later, we realized that files were now linking to Style2.css. An html search with FP shows 868 html files now link to Style2.css. I've had them check this to make sure no one is applying to ALL PAGES: § In Page view, select the page to which you want to assign an external cascading style sheet (CSS). § On the Format menu, click Style Sheet Links. § To find your external CSS, click Add (if it is not already in the URL list). § In the Select Style Sheet dialog box, click the CSS you want to add, and then click OK. § In the URL list, select the CSS you want to assign to the page. any idea why this would occur? TIA Kevin

Thanks very much for the info jaybee! That said, they seem to be convinced that it has something to do with editing the CSS file in FP2000 but working on/viewing the site properties in FP2002. Could that have anything to do with it? Seems to be reaching a bit to me... Kevin EDIT: I've found specific instructions to apply a CSS to multiple pages and to all pages in FP2002. Is FP2000 capable of the same? Apologies, I don't have an FP2000 client available to try on... EDIT #2 Found this article: FP2000: Style Sheet Links Feature Reformats Entire Web If the Active Page Is an ASP Page which seems to indicate that indeed FP2000 may be the culprit after all, assuming Office2000 SP1 has not been applied.
