_gail -> Email slowdown (3/30/2005 15:09:17)

What causes email to slow down to a snail's pace? Until a few weeks ago, I was able to send and receive email almost instantly; now it takes between 18 - 36 hours. Since I use email for a lot of personal, financial and business matters, the situation is beginning to cause problems.

At first I thought it may be my ISP, but if I email via gmail or yahoo, mail is sent and received almost immediately. Any suggestions?

thanks, gail

This is email sent directly via your isp? (mail.yourisp.com)
Definitely their problem, gmail or yahoo use a different system, so your isp is the bottleneck

Hi Gail

Usually it's down to the load on the server. The more the servers doing, the harder it has to work at getting your emails out and sending the web pages to the end users. It's all down to the number of webs on the same server, how active those webs are, and how active the POP/SMTP service is on the server.

Well, yes, but a client is having the same problem and uses a different ISP, though we have the same host. So I probably need to contact my host.

thanks both for the quick help!
