Frontpage Freezes up when I try to open web - 3/30/2005 22:43:18
When I try to open a web on the remote server, FP2002 freezes and gives an error that Windows is increasing virtual memory. This only happens when I try to connect to a Win2003 server. Strangely enough, I have no problems when I Publish a Web. Also I have no problems when I connect to a Linux/frontpage extensions server. All works fine. But try to connect to a Win2003 server - instant freeze up. I'm using WinXP SP2 I've also tried to find and delete *.web files. Couldn't find any. TIA Kerryww

Hi and Welcome to OutFront. IIRC that problem has to do with a Local Security Policy at the server. I think it was: Domain Member: Digitally encrypt or sign secure channel data (always) I think it defaults to enable and by disabling it, that should clear it. I remember reading an MS KB article but I can't seem to find it at the moment. Hope it helps.

Hi, Thanks for your help. I did a good seach through MS KB but the best i could come up with was to delete all the *.web files. There weren't any to delete when i did a search. I then made the page file bigger by about 4 Gb on a secondary disk. That, as you'd expect didn't help. I then removed SP2, still no luck. After an hour I gave up. I keep all my important files and emails on my Linux server. I keep very little on my XP machine, so I just did a format and reinstalled XP and FP (which I do every 4-6 months anyway) As you'd expect. Problem solved. I learned long ago to keep Windows machines lean, so that at the slightest hich or slowdown, I just reinstall. Leave the problem solving up to MS, makes life a lot easier.
