Mojo -> RE: Google's Patent Explained (4/3/2005 14:31:12)

IMO - It's a red herring. When a PR8 site - wordpress.org could run over 100,000 search engine spam pages on it's site and hide links to those pages from it's front page using simple hidden div tages - something is not right. Googlguy has been saying for over a year they detect hidden content - yeah right. Besides, why would Google divulge so much information on how to game their index. They are making it *way* too easy. Start coming up with creative methods to get people to bookmark your site... too easy. Think about (I added the bold): quote:
58. The method of claim 57, further comprising: determining longevity of the linkage data; deriving an indication of content update for a linking document providing the linkage data; and adjusting the ranking of the linked document based on the longevity of the linkage data and the indication of content update for the linking document. 59. The method of claim 58, wherein the adjusting the ranking includes penalizing the ranking if the longevity indicates a short life for the linkage data and boosting the ranking if the longevity indicates a long life for the linkage data. 60. The method of claim 59, wherein the adjusting the ranking further includes penalizing the ranking if at least a portion of content from the linking document is considered stale over a period of time and boosting the ranking if the portion of content from the linking document is considered updated over the period of time Not only will this be easy to game, but think about how much fun you could have with your competitors... This just has to be a ruse.
