Partnerships - 4/5/2005 12:59:10
In a related thread, Reflect mentioned last week that one way to increase income is through Partnerships. I read his comments and they just sort of passed out of my mind, I suppose primarily because I don't know a thing about them.

Anyway, I'm sitting in a waiting room this morning reading PC Photo Magazine; read some ads and one in particular caught my attention. I said to myself...hey that sounds like an exceptional photographic service. End of thought.

When I got back home, I open my email and find an inquiry from a person from that very company, who wrote in part: "I was wondering if you can tell me with whom I should contact about partnering/marketing opportunities with your publication."

Errrr, where do I find out more about this partnering? Quickly! :)

Well, for starters, I would reply back that I am the person to discuss it with and then, since he/she made the contact, I would do a lot of listening and say nothing! then, you have time and direction to research it.

Since you run Adsense on your site - Does this site come up on your Ads? If so, how often are they clicked? This can give you an idea of how much they may curently be paying. If they are not on you site ads, just use a few that you have details on and run an average. This could be a starting point for how much to charge them for custom ads. Course, I would charge more for the custom ad as they should be getting better clicks.

If they are looking for someone to help move their product - an affiliate - that is even better. Most affiliates earn between 5% and 8%. I always go with 8% myself. Use Dan's advice "I would do a lot of listening and say nothing!". Don't bring up your fee first. Let them tell you how much they are willing to pay and then make your move from there.
