Hi Gang,

Microsoft recently acquired a company with a proven search engine called Lookout. It has been adapted as an Outlook add-on which allows lightning fast searches for e-mail and any other files/attachments not only in Outlook but, optionally, anywhere else on your hard drive.

Once installed, you'll have a new toolbar for Lookout in Outlook. Works slick as a whistle! Click Here

I found it slowed down the loading of Outlook initially - but it does seem slick when loaded.

Morning:

Google desktop will search not only Outlook, but your whole computer, including including Mozilla Thunderbird, pdf, music, and image files.

I've had it residing for awhile and found no unpleasant side effects.
Pretty cool, really.

I just downloaded it, found it worked nicely. Thanks Larry

Very nice. I always noticed Outlook took a LOOOOONG time to go through my thousands of messages.

lambert321,

For whatever reason [:-] Google Desktop doesn't recognize my Outlook files. Otherwise, as you say, it gets the job done.

BUT, dang, Lookout runs circles around Google Desktop on search returns! Don't know how many Personal Folders/Archived Outlook messages I have, but my .PST file is right at 200 MB. Lookout returns using any combination of search parameters is all but instantaneous[&:] And, BTW, the price is definitely right.

So far I've tried Blinx, Google, and Copernic desktop tools and so far Copernic has my vote for desktop searching. They just came out with a new release over the weekend so I don't know what they fixed or added. It does have a much cleaner interface, now, but interestingly, when I tried searching the web from the desktop tool, it did not invoke the excellent Copernic Personal search tool. Maybe the new release fixed that though I still opt for Google most of the time. If you've never used either Copernic tools, they're definitely worth the look.

Is Lookout the same tool from Microsoft as the one in MSN?

yogaboy -> RE: Slick Add-On for Microsoft Outlook! (4/6/2005 15:23:16)

I tried Blinx and it broke my pc. Tried Lookout and it was very good at finding messages but not so good at the rest, and I didn't really like it's style.

I've decided to just do things the old way - forget where I put things and not care too much!

ps I don't know why this said I'm replying to you, Pyramid, I must have clicked something somewhere!!!![:)]

I know this is an old thread but I just wanted to mentioned that Lookout was a good tool!!
Because it isn´t developed anymore it isn´t compatible with Outlook 07 and windows vista, but I think the most of you know that!
What I wanted to say that there is a really good alternative to Lookout, even better!

It´s called Lookeen

It really really fast, easy, reliable, works with exchange server, is also a desktop search etc. etc!

For searching emails in outlook nothing beats xobni (inbox spelled backwards). http://www.xobni.com/

I tried Xobni and had a lot of problems with it (main problem was the search performance).
My Computer got very slow (sometimes it even did nothing anymore). The idea behind Xobni is good but i have some doubts if it is really needed. It more a messenger than a search tool.

There is also an article on wikip. where some problems are described. I currently use another tool (i won´t mention it here).

I had some problems with the BETA last year but now I am using it to manage six 2-gig archives and a current mailbox with 1000 unique users on it and over 200 emails per day. I can select a user and see what files were sent and past threads...this really works well for me.
