Folder isn't accessible error - 4/11/2005 20:53:14
I had problems with FP 2003 on my last computer and today had a brand new one delivered hoping FP would work just fine. But doesn't.

I have been on with Microsoft tech support for 2 weeks and getting no where. Others can get into my site so have decided it's not a server issue. But maybe you can tell me I'm wrong.

I go to File, Open Site, type in http://www.madisonblvd.com and normally I'd get prompted for my username and password but it gives me an error...

"The folder 'http://www.madisonblvd.com/" isn't accessible. The folder may be located in an unavailable location, protectected with a password, or the filename contains a / or \.

Can someone offer some ideas on how to get FP 2003 to let me into my site on the server?

Thanks,
Susan

Susan

Welcome to Outfront

If checked the status of your server:

quote:

WWW Site: www.madisonblvd.com
Port: 80
Server Software: Apache/1.3.29 (Unix) JRun/4.0 ApacheJServ/1.1.2 PHP/4.3.4 mod_throttle/2.11 FrontPage/5.0.2.2634 Rewrit/1.1a
FrontPage Extensions: YES
Version: 5.0.2.2634

The important bit is in bold:)

You can take either of the following steps:

1) Try publishing to http://madisonblvd.com
2) Get the host to re-install the extensions

If they fail, try publishing to another server, if it works then, it's a problem with your host, if still fails, try disabling your firewall etc

HTH

Dan

I am having the same problem. I try to "Open Site..." from the File menu, and get the error described. One forum suggested editing the Internet Zone custom settings in IE to ask for a username/password instead of anonymous login remembering. I tried that hopeing for great results, and nothing.

The server I'm trying to connect to has had FP extension uninstalled and reinstalled several times, and the IT people there tell me that they aren't having any problems connecting.

What other possible reason could there be for this? Could it be a firewall issue on my school server? Again our IT person tells me here that the necessary ports are open, and FYI, I have gotten this to work before, that is before I reinstalled windows and office 2k3.

I have the same problem with my Office 2003 SP2 Frontpage machine.

My Office 2003 SP1 machine (version 11.6356.6360 SP1) always connects to my FrontPage servers without problem while my Office SP2 machine gives me the error above. (Office SP2 machine gives the same error on two entirely different websites that I maintain - it's not the websites that I can see). Not sure if it really is the SP version that makes the one machine work -as my solution has been to remotely access my Office SP1 machine and use that version of FrontPage to get the job done (since reinstalling Office is such a pain).

(MS has a KB article that mentions the error, but it didn't help me: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=905427)

yeah, I hate to tell you guys this, but we beat this up many moons ago.

It's the URL

try to put the trailing slash at the end of the address...

iow, 'http://www.madisonblvd.com/ not 'http://www.madisonblvd.com

I had this same problem. Only some users could login, others could not... I tried this, and it seemed to work fine after. Each user in which it did not work, they had to do this.

Start, Run

In run type: frontpg http://www.madisonblvd.com

Try it. Might work.

For what is is worth I just tried it with the trailing slash and it worked. (The password box opened) However it took a long time for a broadband connection.

I had tried the trailing slash before and never worked for me... so I guess people can try either solution... One seems to work for some, and the other works for other people...
