jhendu -> Can only view in IE (4/12/2005 17:15:54)

Hi...
My page is a work in progress for sure...but for some reason it is only viewable in IE and have heard problems with viewing in other browsers..

also, if I created the pages with multiple text boxes, I have been told that is the reason it does not resize to the specific screen and that I need to create each page into a .gif file..is this true and if so...is there an easy way to just select all and save as a .gif file...

Thanks....

Not quite true.

You can see the home page in Firefox but none of the links work so you can't get into the rest of the site.

Why? Well I'm not sure what you used to build it but it looks like Word or Excel rather than FrontPage.

If that's the case, the pages use Office schemas. Those are recognised by Internet Explorer as it's another Microsoft product but Firefox, Opera, Mozilla et al won't have a clue what they are.

I'm afraid it's another case of the Microsoft specials.

Who told you to convert the whole lot into a gif? Whatever you do don't do that. It'll only make things worse. You'll not only have an inaccessible page but, as it'll be one large graphic, it'll take forever to load and the search engines won't have a clue what's in it.

great advice AND your text will no longer be text so you cannot modify it!! Dont do it, as jaybee says.

F$&%

I remember someone saying the same thing to me...
The weird thing is this...
I open front page, open new web page and then basically build the text within the page by text boxes and fonts and colors..

is that using word and excel?

Thanks

dpf -> RE: Can only view in IE (4/12/2005 17:42:24)

did you type all the text directly or copy/paste from somewhere?

on closer look, I think all that ms schema is from word art!!!

jhendu -> RE: Can only view in IE (4/12/2005 17:43:55)

I typed all the text in myself...and then create the hyperlink for the page to where it needs to go..

I checked the schema on Microsoft's site and it says Word and Excel.

Hold on, I'll pull it into FP and see what happens.

jaybee -> RE: Can only view in IE (4/12/2005 17:54:34)

OK, I think I can see the problem. It's giving that schema because of the text boxes.

Firefox doesn't like it because you have laid out the page with text boxes and then put tables inside the boxes.

You'd be much better off having a table with cells and putting your links in the cells.

You also seem to have used shapes to put the background in, you can put the background in the table instead.

I have to admit I've never seen a page put together like that before. Did you use a template?

jhendu -> RE: Can only view in IE (4/12/2005 17:59:14)

well I guess leave it up to me to provide the uniqueness...

I am really not familiar with the tables and cells language or really how to do that at all...

I used text boxes or just shapes to create the format....and no template, just a blank page..and filled in with colors and adjusted the font..it actually was pretty easy, but unfortunately "wrong"...

jaybee -> RE: Can only view in IE (4/12/2005 18:06:50)

Well no, it's not wrong, it's just that nobody but Microsoft has a clue what's going on. [:D]

It really is very easy to use tables. If you go to the very top of this page you'll see a bar just above the logo and there's a tutorial link. In there, there are some good walkthroughs for FP beginners.

We're all here to help you when you get stuck.

If you're going to do it though, forget about text boxes and auto shapes.

Forget.... forget..... you are getting drowsy.... forget....

Best of luck

Josh, you're only going to get the same answers (if you get any) that you got in your previous post. The HTML in you page is garbage (sorry and I know it's not your fault) and you're using a component (or components ie. text box+) that only work in IE. Lay your page out using a table as Bobby suggested and use text as your hyperlink (I haven't even figured out how to insert a text box w/o a form so you're doing better than me). Frankly you have so many different dimensions specified on that one page I'm surprised that IE can even render it properly, as forgiving as it is. You do not have to use gifs for your page just lay it out correctly and text works just fine.

In all honesty I've never seen anything like it. Scrap it and start over.

to be quite honest about it (as we always are around here - haha) while you did it all wrong (!) - your design is really quite appealing - good job. The truth is that redoing it correctly wont be as hard as you may think and we are glad to help - its worth the effort.

I just said that. Didn't I just said that? I'm sure I just said that.

(but much more nicely put of course)

Mike is obviously a figbox of my imagination. I'm a better mystic than I thought. [;)]

Figbox??????????????????

Sorry my Auntie Ethel didn't fill me in on that one...

jaybee -> RE: Can only view in IE (4/12/2005 18:22:05)

Apologies guys. I'm afraid it's a hangover from an early 70s TV show called Hope & Keen's Crazy Bus. He always got the words wrong and for some reason Figbox of your imagination seems to have stuck.

Anyway, totally off topic so to get back on it

I agree with Dan the design is really cool. All you need to do now is get it laid out properly and you're flying! [:D]

jhendu -> RE: Can only view in IE (4/12/2005 18:29:09)

so...alll the tutorials are in FP2000..i am sure it is not too different..

Basic question time...
I want to get the color in the backround, so I create a new page and select page prop..and format the color...then when i want to put text into the "squares"or shapes I want, then I create tables or do I create a layer and size it to the shape I want?

dpf -> RE: Can only view in IE (4/12/2005 18:39:08)

create a table with as many rows and columns as you need..best to lay it out on paper first - and you can choose whether or not to have border around table and cells - easy actually
